When we moved to this area — eastern Ontario from Southwestern Ontario — I was looking forward to a more wintry winter. Well, we do get that. Back in the other place, snow cover would normally come and go throughout the season, but here it sticks. Once that certain snowfall comes our way, we always have some snow cover until sometime in late March or occasionally into April. This year, that first snow that stuck around came around mid-November if I recall correctly.
But one almost annual winter event that I pretty much despise is the January thaw which is often followed by freezing rain. This week, our driveway became covered with thick ice. So, we got out there, broke it up, pushed it to the side, and then heaved it onto the lawn.
It's not a fun task, but it beats slipping on the ice.
Shifting the ice is winter's worst job. Worst.
ReplyDeleteHateful job! Equivalent to cleaning an oven in my book!
ReplyDeleteMmmm. Did that guy across the street with a perfectly clean driveway use a giant blowtorch while your poor wife was in the driveway trying to shovel the ice off? :(
ReplyDeleteOh gosh! I remember those days. No fun, but maybe the exercise is good? Hmmm...
ReplyDeletewe have a snow blower, it was a wonderful purchase.
ReplyDeleteI too was hoping for a more wintry winter when I moved to Norway. I moved to the wrong part! It rains more than it does in the Netherlands and as for winter: for the past five years, the Netherlands has had more snow and ice than we have had here! Very much a case of being careful what you ask for.
ReplyDeleteI will never understand a mindset moving somewhere because you WANT MORE of a winter, but hey, whatever floats your boat. LOL
ReplyDeleteI love how Sue works and you take a photo!
ReplyDeleteCan you hire a teenager?
