He Walks

We're not a family of early walkers. Zach's Mom walked at twelve months: fairly normal but definitely not early. His dad, aunt and his sister all waited until they were in their 14th month. That's not zippy.

However, Zach has begun at 9 1/2 months. The crazy thing is that it appeared that he could have started even earlier. He was certainly strong enough and didn't have any problems standing for long intervals. He didn't quite trust his balance enough to let go though. It all changed on the weekend, and the boy is quite chuffed over himself.

He Walks ...

I marvel at the uniqueness of it all. Given family dynamics, where does this earliness come from? He certainly doesn't seem to be terribly aggressive or rambunctious, and, being almost quiet and studious, his personality doesn't seem to be as out there as his sister. If it were simply a matter of physical strength I concur that he certainly has that, but I imagine that there's more to it. What that something is, I'm not sure. Is it blind chance that he simply happens to discover his legs early, or is there something in the construction of his brain that leads him to do this? I don't know the answer, but I do find it fascinating to observe and speculate.

Below: a few video clips spliced together and my attempt to add a music track.

I love the way how your granddaughter doesn't seem to be in the least interested in what her brother is getting up to!

Oh AC the video was perfect as far as I am concerned. It brought tears to my eyes. Zach is beautiful and you chose the perfect song!
My grandson, Jack, just started walking this past spring, now he is climbing EVERYTHING! Just a warning.
He is all over the place, much more than his big sister was!
All I have left to say to you AC is
Long May You Run!

Kids all keep to their own time scale, I guess, where walking is concerned - and crawling! My daughter was an ace crawler by six months and I spent hours walking astride her , like a giraffe, 'cos she was a bit small to let loose on her own! She still likes travelling to this day, though not on all fours!

thank god I learned to type by touch--I'm all misty. I even managed to live with Neil Young. Good choice of almost-music.

I couldn't help but chuckle how his older sister sits there in the chair totally unimpressed with what's going on. I suspect he has many years ahead of him of the same response from big sis. :-)

I had one that spoke early, one that walked early, and one that did neither early. I don't know why or what it says of who they are, however the early walker tends toward more athleticism, and the early talker tends toward more academism (is that a word?).

He is so very very cute. I really like the first collage. And I too had to chuckle at big sister's indifference.

Now he will be into everything, such a cute little chap. Oh and he walked on my daughter's 40th birthday but I still remember her at that age!
