Still Waters

When we left the arena after JJ's final hockey game, for the first time, I noticed that I could see the townhall steeple from the parking lot. (This first time sighting was at least partially explained by the fact that you can't see the steeple from all angles and does not man that I am totally clueless ... although perhaps I am, at least according to legions.)

So I said, "Oh there's the townhall steeple. I've never noticed that before."

Then Sue said, "Oh there's the townhall steeple. I've never noticed that before."

It's not that Sue is dumb. It's just that she hadn't heard me.

She hadn't heard me because I hadn't said it. Out loud, I mean.

Nope. I said it to myself.

Whereas, Sue said it to the world.

This is one example of the difference between introverts and extroverts.

It has happened before.

Like the time we were out walking, and I saw a body by the sidewalk. I quickly realized that the man was resting from the construction work that was going on nearby in the same lot.

No sooner had I processed the above — internally, of course — than Sue verbalized the very same thing.

Still waters run deep. Don't underestimate what goes on in an introvert's brain.

With me, I think the problem is that it takes me a while to gather my words together and form them into a sentence. Whereas some people seem able to speak like the flowing of water!

And then there are people (I don't think intro/extro/vert is the reason) who speak without any forethought whatsoever. I sometimes wish I were deaf so I can work near them and not have the ongoing dialog they have with themselves. Or worse yet, whistling to a tune, but off tune completely ALL the time. Thanks for your thoughtful pauses...and everyone else who does this.

Barbara Rogers, hurrah! One of the card players in our foursome cannot shut up. I have been known to say, loudly and rudely, Shut Up!.

Don't underestimate the thinking of a pair that's been together as long as the two of you. G and I do that.

I'm something of an introvert. Excellent shot.

Introverts rule! Did you ever read the power of the introvert?

Actually at this house I say it out loud and my husband repeats it a few minutes later...!

Try living alone … It's wonderful. You can be whichever one you want to be !! Have you noticed that couples that live together for a long time not only have the same thoughts but often actually look alike?

In the Myers Briggs tests I am slightly introvert and I think my husband was also. All my children test as introvert, too. But my home is not as quiet as you might imagine....
