Winter Fun on the Hill

After quite a run of holiday snaps, this blog has gone quiet for a few days. Having a few nights of bad sleep and a few days of babysitting will have that effect. Plus, of course, the holiday events are over for the most part.

I did say for the most part . . . but when we had the kids for two days, we managed to do what has become an annual event — take them tobogganing. We call it tobogganing by default, but sledding works too . . . or even saucering, I suppose.

It's not a huge outing in the sense that there is a hill just around the corner.

But it's so quintessentially Canadian to see a group of kids having some winter fun like this.

We had four varieties of sledding devices: an inflatable thing, of which I don't seem to have any pictures, and a sled of sorts (below, where grandma is helping JJ up after a spill). Neither the inflatable nor the sled were hugely popular.

The toboggan did get some use, including from grandma and grandpa. I have some video of the us grands to perhaps share later, but for now, here's JJ.

We have two saucers, and they were the most popular of the sliding devices.

When we were leaving, I told Danica how lucky we were to be Canadian and get to have fun in this way because so many places can't experience this joy of winter sledding.

I have some videos, but they are in so many numerous clips, that I'll have to do some editing and show in a later post.

Got to love winter! If not, we'd be miserable for a good portion of the year.

It looks like you had great fun! Grandchildren keep us young!

These photos do bring back memories of my childhood growing up in Colorado. I was never cold and wonder why that is.

it is snowing here today as I read this post, AC. And we're hoping there's enough for us to go snow shoeing on Sunday morning as the park is within walking distance of our apt.

Oh what fun! Brings back many memories. We lived on a grand hill, so our house was the "place to be' in the winter (and summer since it was located on a lake.) We had a 4 person toboggan, saucers, and also great fun with inner tubes. Mom finally moved away from there in 1980. Even my children remember sliding down Gram's hills. :) Thanks for sharing this. So much fun.

The tobogganing hill at the end of our street is huge. I can go up once. Your local slope is perfect. Good for you for sliding too.

I so want to do that. I don't know how my body and bones will hold up, but I still want to do that and am quite envious of your grandchildren!
