Downtown After the First Snow

Believe me! It wasn't the excitement of the first snowfall that got me out of bed at 4:30 after less than five hours sleep; that's just the way my life goes.

And I certainly didn't go out to take photos at 4:30, but I did eventually go out to take some photos. I went downtown (not far) to try and get some pics of reflections on the wet pavement. They weren't much to shout and holler about, but a few were okay. Different anyway.

I snapped a few right from the municipal parking lot near townhall.

This is the back of the Moore House: the original log home. It was located elsewhere in the town but moved here a number of years ago. Townhall looms in the background.

Still in the parking lot. looking toward townhall. That's the former Paterson Funeral Home and Furniture store on the left. Presently, it is a beauty parlour and apartments.

From the street, I took this shot of the Moore House from the front. As you can see from the signage, it now serves several functions.

The photos of reflections that I had most wanted to take were just okay. Here is one.

Finally, here is a shot of the Halloween themed display in The Granary window.

The walking was a little slippery, so I turned back sooner than I had planned, but it was fun to get out and do a different kind of shooting than my normal.

As for the snow, it will be gone tomorrow when the temperatures will climb to 14°C/57°F. But there will be more in due course.

Well done! It's way too dark in our back 40 to take photos then!
Apartments, I've never noticed.

The town at night has a different look! Love the Hallowe'en shot.

I would prefer to stay in my nice warm bed and admire the first snow through the window, but your photos were worth the bother of getting up and getting out.
I'd like to know more about the Roy Brown Exhibit. I know he was born in Carleton Place, but he owned a farm in Gormley near here in his later years, and in fact died here.

You are becoming better and better each day! All of these photos give the moodiness of a winter morning in a town. Congrats.

I hope this finds you and yours doing well. May we display your header on our new site directory? As it is now, the site title (linked back to its home page) is listed, and we think displaying the header will attract more attention. In any event, we hope you will come by and see what is going on at SiteHoundSniffs.com.

As an unapologetic snow lover, I love these photos :)

Your photos are beautiful and I love them! I am a snow lover and, living in Montreal, Canada we do get snow here! We did get some snow here in Quebec, but it missed Montreal...however, it will be coming. Thank you so much for sharing. :)

I regret to inform you that the results of your insomnia are a real delight to many of us.
And it is still quite cold here at 1:30pm Saturday. Misty, moody and raw.
Love the tracks on the road shot, but you are correct that the reflections are adequate but not dramatic. Too bad when you went to the trouble of slogging out into the slush.

Just really wonderful stuff. This said from the perspective of a woman living in an urban desert. I like the shot with the defined lines in the building contrasting with the tire lines in the street going up the hill. That's a keeper.

We are awaiting our first snow and yes we will go out walking, but most likely not at the early hour you did, AC. The weather here is still unseasonably warm so it may be awhile, but then last week other parts of the state did have some white flakes, so maybe soon we will as well.
