We Succumbed

I guess I can proclaim that pre-winter hath arrived, for we turned the furnace on last night. The house was down to 16.5°C (62°F) when we got home late afternoon, and with the forecast taking us down to nearly freezing, we threw in the metaphorical towel. One hates to give in too soon because winter, which in essence I actually don't mind, hangs around so long. Soon though, I'll start looking forward to Christmas and family reunions, and that's good.

So far we've avoided turning on the heat by using the wood stove, but Scott is gone overnight tonight, and I'm afraid to try to lay a fire myself. I can keep one going that's already done, but all those dampers and catalytic converters and stuff freak me out. And it was 32F last night, so it probably will be again tonight.

Our heating is back on too :(

We had a short burst for a couple of hours this morning, but then I turned it off. I really don't want to give in too soon. It was below freezing last night, but we were snug in bed in our flannel sheets. In the meantime I'm knitting plenty of wool hats, socks and sweaters!!

I didn't cave and turn on the heat, but my housemate did last weekend. Oh, well.

I must admit I turned the heating on days ago.

We have a heat pump so we can turn on heat, or cool--depending. We have had heat on the last several nights--it has been near freezing (outdoors, of course).
I am hoping for a cold winter. I LOVE cold weather.

Yes, Christmas is just a couple of months away and like you, I enjoy the celebration.

Snow was predicted overnight here but when I woke up this morning there was none. I was happy about that, as it is a bit too early for me.

Enjoyed visiting.
Blessings,
Mary

The winter holidays - Thanksgiving and Christmas - are my favorite ones because of the family gatherings - the food isn't bad either. We are so far south that it has yet to even approach freezing - we are still using the air conditioning, especially in the daytime. ec

Your winter, our summer - same intensity, different ends of the scale! We have the fans on most days and nights now, holding off with the airconditioning as long as possible.

HA! You don't know how funny this is to me. (We work to get the house to 17degrees all winter.)

Incredibly I am already getting excited patty-cakes thinking about Chrsitmas. I am a ridiculous kid.

I wonder if your grand daughter remembers the snow and cold from last Winter. She may be old enogh this Winter to make a snowball, so hold onto your hat.

The season is changing, for sure. My furnace has been going on for a few weeks already. I don't turn it on but it only turns down to 50 and it's been colder than that lots of times, especially at night.

Yep, here too. I tried not too, with the fuel so expensive (oil in 1000 ltr tank) but now it's just too cold in the evening.

Mind you the cats absolutely love the heat and leave me alone, sleeping above the hot radiators.

We have also marked the "turning on of the furnace day". +sigh+
