Of Trips, Cameras and Dithers

I, AC, do solemnly swear that this will be the last of exploration of June Pics from the Archives. This had better be the case as we are into July. But it's a summer pic nonetheless, so I'm jiggy wid it.

First, let me say that Cuppa and I had Monday off because Mommy stayed home with a sick little Nikkie Dee. So, I experimented with what you see in the photo below: getting text formatted the way I want inside the picture frame. I had done something like this years ago, but I have pretty well lost whatever html skills that I had, so it was quite an ordeal.

AC by a river near Elliot Lake in Northern Ontario, 2003

We drove as far as Winnipeg on that little trip where we met Althegal and drove her home to Ontario. She had been staying further west and travelled eastward to meet us in Winnipeg. While there is much more that can be told of that trip, those bare bones must suffice for now because I prefer to talk about cameras.

The picture was taken with Cuppa's then new digital camera. It was just a 4mp point and shoot camera, much more expensive than much better cameras now and even more expensive than current entry level DLSRs, but it seemed awfully wonderful at the time. In point of fact, I was so impressed that I put my film SLR camera away before the trip and never took it out again.

I had only purchased the SLR three years earlier, and I remember the salesman saying to me at the time that digital cameras wouldn't be as good as film cameras for twenty years. While I doubted that would be correct, I didn't think I'd be abandoning it just three short years later.

Just two years after that trip I bought my DSLR, which is now almost a museum piece. I still use this old Digital Rebel, but I continue to dither over it. Last year, for our trip out west, I almost bought a second but better point and shoot than the one we already have. Fortunately, I resisted and desisted because I don't think I would have been happy with the alternatives that I was then considering.

This year, I have been dithering the same dither about our trip down east. I won't rehash all my dithers here and now, and I suspect I'll do nothing but port my old DSLR and snap snap snap to my heart's content.

If I change my mind, I'll let you know.

Well, dither along! As long as you still manage to get those beautiful photographs of your grandchildren, children and Cuppa, I won't be complaining!
