Grack!

They've been driving me nuts for days. They're in the trees a few doors down, and they seem to scold. A lot. As in all day a lot.

I didn't know what they kind of birds they were until I saw Grackles flying in and out of those trees. Maybe they're not scolding. Maybe it sounds like music to their ears — kind of the rap of the bird kingdom. That must be it; they couldn't be peeved enough to scold all the livelong day. Could they?

Whatever. It's just one more reason to dislike them.

Once upon a time I owned a pellet gun. I'm just sayin.

  1. I hate it when they do that. They always seem to be doing it early in the morning. When I'm still in bed. Enjoying some sleep on a day off...

  2. I just looked up grackle, since the name was unfamiliar, and it seems you have a 'plague' of them (that's what it's called when they congragate -according to wikipedia) It does say that they imitate human voices, so it might be worth playing some nice opera under their tree to see if they change their tune :)

  3. Just to put things in perspective, try living in an apartment on a busy boulevard with imbeciles driving by blasting their car stereos (at all times of day and night) and neighbours who choose 1:00 am (this morning!!) to have a shouting match! Then mix in all the sirens, horn blowing and motor cycle roaring and I would take a few Grackles any day.
I would pull out the hearing aids before pulling out a pellet gun ... :-)

  4. Over here today? It's the boom-boom-boom of cheap fireworks. Would probably go unnoticed if a flock of birds were eliminated.

  8. Oh, I love grackles and kingbirds. They got it right -- this land is their land!!! They talk about it all day long, chewing the fat and just setting things straight. They keep me company out here in the desert and they're really clever, too...can open lunch boxes with zippers!
