An Offer We Can Refuse

In the mail, an envelope from Good Housekeeping. Through the window in the top left corner we see that we have a credit adjustment of $33.91. Say what? We have nothing to do with Good Housekeeping (I mean the magazine because I think the house is kept in pretty good shape — well it's clean, even if not exactly up to big spread photos.) I considered that, Thesha gave Cuppa the O magazine for her birthday, so maybe she ordered and paid for another one, but they can't deliver for some reason and our sending us a nice little refund.

Hah!

Open the envelope. Just offering us $33.91 off the supposedly regular price of $53.88 for the magazine.

So, they want us to subscribe to Good Housekeeping for $53-33 - $33.91 = $19.97. Well, why didn't they just say so?

Just how dumb does Good Housekeeping think people are?

Pretty dumb, I guess.

But even the young readers of chickaDEE wouldn't be taken in by that offer.

It's certainly an offer that Cuppa and I can refuse.

  1. It's like those ads saying, save $50, but if you don't buy anything, you save more.

  2. Magazines are losing readership rapidly in this internet age. I imagine they will try any gimmick to get readers. I stopped our Readers Digest subscription this year after 30+ years. The magazine has shrunk to just a fraction of its original size. I received plenty of mail from them about my cancellation that tried to put me on a guilt trip.

  4. It's not a sale if it's something you don't need I always say! However I do love GH and mine only costs $12.00 a year, go figure! Love Di ♥

  5. A/C that is a good price if it is a magazine you read every month, they are $4 to $5.00 if you pick one up with your groceries.

I usually pick up O as well and always pick up the Dec. issue of GH, you know I should look into this........:-) Hugs

There is something so weird about magazine. About 7 years ago I stared to get Home and Gardens or something like that. I did not order it. I am still getting it. About once a year I get a bill for the years, I never answer it but the mag. just keeps on coming. No one in my family will admit to buying it for me. Who knows.

  8. We've canceled most subscriptions. Seems with the internet we just don't need them.

Though I am a little curious about one that a friend mentioned today:

Garden and Gun! I kid you not!

  10. Diana: Magazines always cost more in Canada. The specialty ones that don't have a proper Canadian outlet are prohibitively more expensive. I dunno; it's not like we have too many tariffs at the border. At least I don't think so.

Sneaky offerings such as this tend to really turn me off to the point of boycotting. Sadly... I do believe many are taken in.
