Day Seven

The visit today was even shorter, just long enough for Grandma to put Nikki Dee down and for us to get a couple of pictures of Zach. He's no nudist and gets a trifle upset when it's time to have his diaper changed, which had just happened (above). I've never encountered that before. Each one is different, eh.

We continue to see a red tinge in his hair. I think it was Ruth of Body Soul and Spirit who was wondering if there might be some Celtic genes present. Just today, I learned that SIL's grandfather might be Scottish, so that's a possibility (might because his mother was adopted and there is conflicting and/or incomplete information). I have some Irish in my tree too, but couldn't picture red hair until I remembered my mother's cousin. Not only does she have red hair, but she and mom also looked very similar, which is odd because they weren't really that closely related: more like their grandfathers were brothers.

Day Six

What with Dad on paternity leave this week, we're making ourselves a little more scarce now that Zach is getting settled. And, he does seem to be settling fairly well although, like most babies, I suppose, he does have tummy issues from time to time. So, we were only over there for a few hours after lunch, mainly for Grandma to put Nikki Dee down for her afternoon nap as she seems to be the only mortal on the planet who can accomplish this task. We are also beginning to wonder who will sleep through the night first — Nikki Dee or Zachary lol — for even as she nears the age of two Nikki Dee still often wakes up for an hour or so in the middle of the night. Meanwhile, while she slept this afternoon, Zach was awake a lot and for the most part pretty tranquil.

Shameless

In some ways, I have no shame. As the world's worst dancer, I should not be posting another clip of me dancing, but ...

Cuppa took this one on Saturday at Nikki Dee's, Music Together class, and after almost two years of posting clips to YouTube, I have decided that it's high past time to do a slightly better job. I'm just using Microsoft's freebie Windows Media Maker, but it does some basic things, and that's all anyone who just shoots little clips from a cheapie digital camera needs. However, not knowing what I am doing is costly because I unwittingly faded-out her delighted smile at the end. Fortunately, I was able to take a still of it, and I posted that at the top.

Day Five

Day Five

When we took Nikki Dee home after her sleepover with us, we found Zachary in a new position — in the chair that used to be Nikki Dee's (above). She was quite pleased with such accessibility and made her was over posthaste. We didn't even have a second to remove her cute little coat (below).

Day Five

He was so accessible that she was able to shower him with kisses.

Day Five

Eventually, we all got our turns with the little fellow. Grandma enjoys hers below.

Day Four

In order to help Mom and Dad get Zach settled on his first night home, Nikki Dee spent the night at our house. The first thing on her agenda this morning was to help me with my blog (above). Then, we took her to her Music Together session. You can get some idea of the child's uniqueness by seeing where she is in the following photo as compared to her more tranquil peers — on her own, dead centre in the circle.

Then it was back to her house where I was able to get some Zach time.

Nikki Dee is being pretty good about accepting the new family dynamics, but she does require a little reassurance from time to time. Below, she gets Daddy to hold her in the same way that I'm holding Zach, or as near as can be managed.

Nikki Dee has come for another over-nighter. Cuppa was up with her for awhile last night, so we're hoping for better results tonight. The load falls on Grandma because Buppa lost the ability to get Nikki Dee to sleep at some point. So far, he's doing okay with the baby. Thank goodness.

Day Three

Day Three

Zach came home today; Cuppa and I got there a few hours later to try to help out. Cuppa helped by being Cuppa, and I helped by going shopping and cooking dinner.

Both Zach and Nikki Dee are hanging in there. We brought ND home tonight to help the rents get settled in with Zach. After being up once last night and eschewing an afternoon nap, she dropped off like a stone tonight. Hopefully, they'll have a good night at the other house too. We'll take Nikki Dee to Music Together in the morning, and we'll see what we're able to do with her after that.

Zach is beginning to lose those bothersome birthing marks. At this point in his young life, he's fairer than any of us. There even seems to be a slight reddish tint to his hair.

I'll be back with another update tomorrow.

Day Two

Let's face it bloggers; you're going to get a steady diet of Zach photos for the next little while. It's most for family and friends and also for me because that's where my head will be at. I will understand if my blogging friends make themselves scarce.

Back in the hospital ...

We were up early this afternoon and for a while in the evening and can report that he seems to be doing fine. It's been a day of a lot of sleeping and a little feeding. Fussing has been minimal ... for Mom too. She's in good spirits and seems to be recovering quickly. Tomorrow will be eventful as they are coming home. We'll see how that goes because Nikki Dee had a few moments of angst and at the hospital jealousy today. dad and I took her for short lunch at the cafeteria followed by a longer tour of the attached seniors residence.

Zach doesn't seem to prefer being up like he is in these two photos although you can't tell from his sleepy and contented look these pictures. He likes to be swaddled, and early indications are that he will take to the soother, something that never was high on Nikki Dee's joy list.

He has long fingers and toes and some of his facial marks may be from scratching himself.
