Those Blasted Details

It drives me crazy. I drive me crazy.

The lack of attention to details.

At the grocery store, I was about to grab vanilla ice cream off the freezer shelf for Thanksgiving pie this weekend when I spied a salty caramel and vanilla bean concoction off to the side. Because Sue likes those sorts of flavours more than she does plain vanilla, my hand altered its course and reached for the caramel.

When I got home, Sue informed me that it was yogurt and not ice cream.

Ordinarily, I think it would probably be a good dessert, but I am skeptical about having it on apple pie for Thanksgiving. And with the dog coming, along with five weeks worth of frozen food, we don’t have the room for extras in the freezer

So back went I to the store, wondering why I don’t notice details. My head spends an inordinate of time in the clouds

Meanwhile, we saw the heron on our trail walk. Or I should say that Sue spotted it, for I wouldn’t have noticed that little detail.

  1. Oh those darned details. I have been known to daydream and do similar stuff...but not necessarily while grocery shopping.
Perhaps you too are just a dreamer.

  2. For me, it is usually inadvertently buying seasoned panko bread crumbs when I was looking for plain since I do my own seasoning. I've done it more times than I can count.

  3. The frozen yoghurt would have been terrific on your pie. IMO it would have been better than any ice cream (milk).

  4. The yogurt would have been perfect on the pie. That is what i always buy.

  5. First try trying to get here gave me a page of nonsense. 2nd try worked.
I don't get frozen yogurt either but it sounded like a marvelous combination.
Who's coming for Thanksgiving there this year?

  6. I don’t know if it’s an age thing, but I find I’m missing a lot more of the smaller details now. Sometimes it sucks getting older.

  7. It's not just any day, it's Thanksgiving - I definitely could've made that mistake, too. The "moments" are a regular occurrence!

  8. At least you will eat the mistaken purchase! As I age I find myself slipping into missing the details and I don't like it.

  9. I love a good heron shot and I've only had one this year so thanks for sharing yours. (It would probably have been fine on pie, too!)

  10. There are TOO many choices; I dither over exactly what kind of vanilla to buy: regular, old-fashioned, French, vanilla bean, etc. It's so easy to grab the wrong thing!

  11. To me, usually frozen yogurt and traditional ice cream both work well for virtually any “ice cream” need. I consider them synonymous…… one just generally has a bit less fat. Your mileage may vary, however, depending on how much of a connoisseur you may be. 🙂

  12. Oh, what a perfect shot of the heron!

  13. I agree with Vicki. That is a perfect heron shot. I always buy vanilla ice cream too, but it's for my coffee mocha. I tried chocolate ice cream, but it wasn't the same. So weird since I usually prefer chocolate to vanilla.

  14. Your mind is often wandering into its own little world

  15. Excellent capture of the heron!

  16. It's ok to be fuddle minded at times. Eat what you buy, if possible. And keep on looking at the herons.

  17. It's not just you. We all make those mistakes. I do anyway. Fabulous Heron photo.

  18. I've done stuff like that too.

  19. I've been known to make the same mistake in shopping.

  20. I make silly shopping mistakes too. I have salted caramel/vanilla ice cream in my freezer but have discovered I don't love it like I used to, so it sits there all alone and unloved...

  21. Been there, more times than I care to admit. Bet your choice would have been good anyway!

  22. Five weeks of frozen food for the dog and a freezer already full, I can see why the yogurt had to go back. Hope the pie turns out well with plain vanilla. Nice that Sue spotted the heron for you.

  23. The salty caramel and vanilla bean would have been my choice as well. Sending best wishes to you and family for the Thanksgiving weekend.

  24. Back when I shopped in person, I would see the item I wanted and unaccountably pick up the thing next to it. That can be very confusing when it turns to be something you never buy on purpose.

  25. Also happy Thanksgiving to you all, plus Jake.

  26. That last picture is so perfectly framed! No comment on the details. I am shocked by my own obliviousness at times.

  27. We're getting increasingly addled. We just have to laugh.

  28. Sure was a nice detail to spot!
