Look at the couple in the park, about to walk into the woods. She is wearing a jacket; they both are. But he is wearing shorts, of a light and flimsy material. It's 11C/52F and windy out. She is being sensible but he is being . . .
Je ne sais pas quoi.

He had the phone glues to his ear but just seemed to be listening. She was holding the dog leash. |
Kids do the short thing for some reason although I don't know what that reason is. More men seem to be doing it this year. But this fellow was no spring chicken, and seemed like a late 60s senior. Old enough to have nourished his brain sufficiently by now.
Sue had been looking for a photo depicting both
orange and
release. She figured out something and directed me, her human tripod, on just how I should shoot the shot.
Success!
Love the leaf photo. We see kids dressing (or not dressing) like that around the campus. I don't get it. But then, I was never cool!
ReplyDeleteWith the light blue color, that guy looks like he's in his boxers or pajamas! I could handle it if they were light tan shorts. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteI have been known to wear shorts deep into the season but give up well before the young bucks going to school do.
ReplyDeleteA friend who is 81 wears shorts well into November. His record is December 6. Crazy.
ReplyDeleteI don't remember if I told you about the UPS guys in Muskoka who bet a steak dinner over who can hold off the longest for pants. It was a hoot seeing them.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I try to refuse socks until I have to. That ship has sailed!
When we lived in Portland, kids would wear shorts when it was snowing. They couldn't have been comfortable? Idk, to each their own!
ReplyDeleteGreat leaf photo! I had students (boys mostly) who only wore shorts. They didn't like the constriction of pants? I hate to be cold so I'm not in that camp although my legs don't get as chilly as my trunk. As long as I have a jacket on, I'm generally comfortable as long as it's not too cold.
ReplyDeleteLove the leaf throw. In the good old days, girls wore skirts, short ones, and probably wore the skirt with socks and shoes. More leg would be exposed than that shown by your blue shorts guy. In winter, the skirt still went out the door, but the legs were covered with wool stockings, secured by an elastic device with buttons. It was only in the '60's that tights were available, and the legs were not very warm.
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pictures!
ReplyDeleteNice shot of releasing the leaves!
ReplyDeleteSue does come up with very clever idea and good that you were there to help. I have seen a number of people still wearing shorts when we have had some chilly days. Apparently, they are reluctant to let summer go away while I can;t wait to wear fleece and sweaters.
ReplyDeleteAround here, shorts have become year-round attire. I don't get it. But then, when i was a child, we girls always wore dresses, and we didn't have tights because we couldn't afford them. Our little legs were almost always e posed to the weather! We did have snowpants though, for the worst winter weather, but we hated them because we had to tuck our dresses inside them and the dresses would get all wrinkled. Uncomfortable too.
ReplyDeleteWe see these shorts in cold weather occasionally, usually worn by the young. Sue’s photo is cleverly presented, it turned out very nice. Well done you too!
ReplyDeleteVisit a cassino. Half those old boys are wearing shorts.
ReplyDeleteI too am curious about the many people I see wearing shorts no matter the weather... sometimes I respect their nerve, other times I wonder if they're depressed.
ReplyDeleteThat last pic is a winner!
ReplyDeleteIt's not uncommon here for men to wear shorts outside of the shorts season. I think it's a thing to say the cold doesn't bother me. Great photo Sue came up with.
ReplyDeleteI don’t get the shorts thing either. John likes to wear shorts in the winter around the house. Meanwhile, I’m all bundled up.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot of Sue throwing the leaves!
