Where Were Our Heads

When I call myself silly, I am not referring specifically to this photo of me sitting in an store although I guess it qualifies.

It was decided that we required new, light lawn chairs to stuff in the car. to pull out easily at the park, or maybe in other places too. Chairs would be more comfortable than a hard, metal park bench. Or so the theory went.

We already had very comfy lawn chairs for endurance sitting at events like the weekend long Celtfest that we used to attend. But they are somewhat large and cumbersome to lug around. So . . .

Off we went to Canadian Tire, which, for ye foreigners, is a lot more than just tires, and tried out their lawn chairs. The above photo reveals that we tried four and settled on a pair of chairs like the one I was sitting on.

Of course, we were eager to put them into service at the first opportunity.

Let me tell you that they were about as uncomfortable as you can imagine. When we got them home, we took them out of the car, and put them in the garage where they remain.

I don't know where our brains were on that day in the store, but we now sit on those uncomfortable park benches by preference.

  1. What a bummer! Somewhere between your heads and unfluffy tushes, the chair changed! Linda in Kansas

  2. I knew even before you mentioned in which store you were at by the photo that you were at Canadian Tire!
Canadian Tire is one of my favourite stores. |I have never bought chairs there, but my television, air conditioner and several appliances including a rice cooker...I have bought there and am extremely happy with my purchases!
Sorry to hear this, dear friend.
Two other of my favourite stores are Dollarama and Giant Tiger. :)

  3. Dang it, and they're so cute! Maybe you were distracted by the nice looking design?

  4. Don't feel bad. Farmbeau and I bought our livingroom furniture because we each thought it was what the other one wanted. It's the most uncomfortable shit we've ever sat in and has been falling apart since its early days in our house. JUNK. But for you think he's willing to replace it? NO! we have to get our money's worth! Grrrr. It's garbage and I'm ready to shell out for new. And this crap won't sit in a garage. It can go straight to the dump as far as I'm concerned.

  5. Canadian tire sells more than tired, I see. I have one of those chairs, comes in a handy carrying bag. Used once a year unless my neighbor borrows it.

  6. I can connect with you on that impulsive buying. We get carried away and tend to buy but nonetheless they look good. :) Enjoy and have a great week!

  7. Well at least the thought of trying them out was a wise decision. The first set I bought, untested, were too narrow and the front legs pushed into the underneath side of my thighs and always caused me much discomfort after long periods of time. The second set, I bought them based solely on how much wider the seat/leg area was. The back on them cause me to slouch since it is impossible to sit upright in them. I have sworn the next set I will personally try ahead of time before buying!

  8. It is really funny how those new chairs turned out to be so uncomfortable. It is a bummer when you think you are getting something better and it just does not work out. At least you know now that the park benches are not so bad after all.

  9. Some of those folding chairs are decently comfortable but it's a question of price and how well they fold up. I got some free ones when I bought my Ford Explorer many years ago and they are worth what I paid for them.

  10. It’s funny how a quest for comfort can lead us right back to the hard benches we were trying to escape

  11. The red one and the green one you are sitting in….. I agree that they are horribly uncomfortable. For me they make my back sore. But, in your image…. The blue one…. With webbing…. is (to me anyhow) much more comfortable. My wife and I have those blue kinds to cart around. We like them a lot. We gave the pair of ones like those cloth red ones to our kids because we never wanted to sit in them again. :)

  12. Not bringing the chairs back? I would.

  13. You tried the chairs inside but I guess what was needed is to try them outside.

  14. I've found the folding fabric ones are ok for short periods of time. And convenient when the other choice is the ground. Sorry yours don't provide any comfort. Sure, park benches work too!

  15. We invested in what I refer to as "orthopedic" lawn chairs: sturdy, with a flip-down table and cup-holder, flat seats with an upright back. Worth it.

  16. I find those sort of chairs really uncomfortable on the back.

  17. I've done that, not with chairs, but with other things.
