How I Sometimes Watch Wimbledon

We are deep into the Wimbledon fortnight. Sometimes, I want to catch up with the score on another match while we have the telly tuned to the match that we most want to watch. That's when the trusty iPad comes in handy.

Tablet fore, tv aft

I can't really watch both for long, however, and the closer and brighter tablet pulls my eyes, so once I have caught up sufficiently, I turn the tablet off and focus on the tv once again.

You may wonder why I don't just change the tv channel for a minute, and of course, I have done that, but fumbling with the remote and then getting back to where I began can be a rigmarole. I find it easier to reach for the tablet, and I don't lose track of the main game while I catch up on the other game

We’re getting near the end now. Not counting doubles and juniors, which we don’t watch, there are only eight players of the 256 players remaining, four women and four men. The women will play their semi finals later this Thursday morning, and by about noon EDT, only two ladies will remain in the hunt. The men will do likewise tomorrow.

It’s okay because we finished our last bowls of strawberries last night at supper. While there are more strawberries to be had locally, we will await next year’s tournament and crop, knock on wood.

  3. I understand about the problem with remotes. The strawberries sound like a great idea.

  4. I think both of our televisions can do picture in picture to accomplish that very thing. I'm not really into sports so I never use the feature since watching one movie while watching another silently in the corner is just silly.

  6. I'm always going back and forth with my phone when I watch Brit mysteries looking up the cast! And sometimes, I fall into the rabbit hole. It's fun to have the back-up device. I'm hoping to nail one more round of strawberries and/or sweet black cherries at the market tomorrow. Can't wait!

  7. I have gotten accustomed to watching movies while googling the background or historical facts. Now I do the same as we watch the news. I used to be amazed by people who carried their phones everywhere. Now I r one.

  10. I like your tradition and agree that the remote can make things tricky. I have trouble remembering where the channel was and nowadays what streaming service it was on. Constant fumbling around.

    1. Within the sports network, there can be many games being shown simultaneously. ad it can be difficult to track down the one that I want.

  13. Mark was a serious tennis player until he had a rather bad accident on the court. Now he simply watches. I used to watch Wimbledon with him in the 70s and 80s. I lost the habit. No clotted cream with those strawberries?

  14. That’s kind of hilarious, only eating strawberries while watching the tennis matches. I dare say you can cheat if you want. I’m Not a fan. Watching in person is the silliest thing in the world…all heads swing back and forth. Playing is quick and talented, but seems to also have some planning that doesn’t show on the screen. Like a winner has knowledge of wind, sun, weaknesses etc. Don’t you think so?
