Beating the Heat and Meeting the Queen in Her Lace Finery

We are in the middle of a heat wave, but it did cool down more than usual overnight Sunday. In addition, we also got out earlier than usual yesterday morning. We had already been getting out earlier lately, but we walked well before 8 yesterday.

We also took ourselves out of our neighbourhood over to the back bridges where we found Queen Anne and her lace (Daucus carota) was blooming widely and wildly.

It was profuse behind the unfortunate, dilapidating, historic machine shop. (Nothing but phone pics today,)

We could see it later by the river as we looked first to the trail bridge and also back toward the old shop by Gillies Bridge.

And there was more of the Queen’s finery to see looking toward the old McArthur Mill.

After the walk, it was still delightfully cool, so we picked up coffee and took it to the park. Since Sue's photo prompt combined ‘red and leisure’, she decided that AC sitting leisurely on a park bench with red hat, red shirt and red coffee cup would fit the bill nicely. The clothes weren't staged for the photo; I just frequently wear red. The cup, however, was staged because the cups they gave us were a special blue for Tim Hortons camp funding week, so we begged for a traditional red cup, which remained empty for the photo.

  1. The second one down, Queen Anne holding court amidst the commoners in rags...(ragweed in front).
Really like the last, sort of misty shot, of the Old Mill. Lots of smoke in the air yesterday.

  2. That old building in the background certainly does look interesting. I have always dreamed of renovating a building like that into a home.

  3. My favorites today are the two with river water showing. And must laugh that a bit of finger appears in the first. Queen Ann's Lace is certainly a pretty flower when lots of it appears.

  5. A lovely photo! Good for you for getting up and out. I woke at 4:30 today, Joe is sleeping in, I am sure until 8. He's been having such issues.

  15. I really like the building images with all the heavy plant growth around them. They exhibit a strong “mood” to me.

Just in case you did not see my reply to your reply to me yesterday….. I will repost it here as I felt sorry that my initial comment and words were not clear and I did not want you to think I was saying something negative……

“Hah…. I am sorry…. I wasn’t being clear….. I meant my VIEWING of your Macros on MY PHONE does not allow ME to recognize their (your Macro images) full beauty, and even when I open your site in my smallish computer monitor, I still do not benefit from the full beauty of those Macros as I would be with a pleasantly large print. Again, I apologize that I was not clear in my thought.

  21. I love it. I once dried Queen Anne's lace and sprayed it with fixative. It adorned my Christmas tree later in the year. It fell apart after that, but boy was it ever neat!

I love the scent of them also.
Thanks, wonderful post and I love it that you wear red a lot.
That used to be my favorite color but lately --> pinkish and green have been my favorite colors!
