We watched the Welsh mystery series, The One That Got Away, on Acorn.
Over the years, three nurses were abducted and killed. One was a Quinlan; one was a Rayner. I can’t remember the third because the name wasn’t relevant to me.
Quinlan and Rayner were relevant to me, however, because my mother was a Quinlan, and my father and I are Rayners. Maybe this programs explains why there aren't many of us around, especially Quinlans lol. I've never met a single Quinlan in my life, but I did teach two Rayner brothers in my thirty years.
By the way, it was a pretty good, six episode series, but I think I am the only one in my blogroll that subscribes to either Acorn or Britbox. I rather love British-quality telly.
A few years ago, I subscribed to both Acorn and Britbox, but then did not renew either. However, I continue to enjoy British and UK police procedurals especially through reading.
ReplyDeleteThe Brits do it well.
DeleteThere's a local family of Rayners. The only ones I ever knew. They get tired of having their name misspelled. Rainer, Raynor, etc.
ReplyDeleteI always have to spell it out. This program used the correct spelling. π
DeleteWe just finished watching these and enjoyed it so much. We pretty Acorn and now will probably watch Britbox for the summer.
ReplyDeleteThis pleases me. π
DeleteJust discovered a series of Bletchley Girls in San Francisco on Prime. Off I go. I met another Rogers at the bookstore yesterday, and said how's your neighborhood (a k a Mr. Rogers Neighborhood) I know, there are lots of Rogers...but perhaps the Rayners are a offshoot!
ReplyDeleteI might have seen it. I did love the British series.
DeleteYou are NOT the only one who subscribes to those two. I subscribe to BOTH! And I love them both. And I'm going to add this one to the list!
ReplyDeleteYay for us. I am not alone. π
DeleteI subscribed to Britbox for years but dropped it when I realized I rarely watch tv. I know Quinlans and McQuinlans.
ReplyDeleteOdd that I have never come across one.
DeleteThere are lots of Quinlans in Newfoundland, AC.
ReplyDeleteI watched a great series on Netflix which had too many characters, but the acting was excellent. It was set in Scotland and called Dept Q.
Dept Q is on my list.
DeleteI don't watch much television, but I am a big fan of the Britcom Keeping Up Appearances and Hyacinth's antics. Thank you so much for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteWe love the mysteries. The Brits sort of perfected that genre.
DeleteI taught a Rayner once. Edward, I'll never forget him. We have Angela Rayner, too . . .
ReplyDeleteThe only ones that I have known were spelled correctly. π
DeleteI would do nothing but watch TV if I had Britbox and Acorn; I love Brit mysteries! My ex-boyfriend's name was Henry Raynor. Close!
ReplyDeleteWe do run out sometimes and find ourselves on Prime or Netflix. We watch at lunch and supper.
DeleteRichard Harrington was in Hinterland which was excellent, although dark.
ReplyDeleteI remember the series well. It was the one where no one smiled -- ever! He is a flawed character in this one.
DeleteI went to school with a Quinlan.
ReplyDeletecool
DeleteYou're not alone; we subscribe to Britbox and watch it a lot,
ReplyDeleteGood stuff, eh?
DeleteI hadn't heard of this one. I just finished watching the second season of The Rig. Dang but that was good.
ReplyDeleteBritish telly can be quite impressive, but I only experience it via Netflix.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed the series, and you're definitely not alone in appreciating the high quality of British telly
ReplyDeleteWe can't subscribe to anything because our satellite internet is limited as to how much we can stream, i.e. not much. I would be thrilled to get BritBox if I could, as I mainly watch BBC movies (on DVD). For a while we got Netflix on disc and that was great. I am waiting on Season 9 of Grantchester to arrive, then I have no idea what I can find to watch.
ReplyDeleteWe love Britbox. Will have to check out this series.
ReplyDeleteMy mom's side of the family dies with her brother, at least the surname. It amazes me how a name can eventually disappear but with smaller families these days, the chances are increased. I finally got in touch with a one branch which would be my third cousins and confirmed the surname is no longer in their side of the family either, descending from the other son of the original immigrant.
ReplyDeleteI just look that one up! We are off a lot of US programming. FBI a distance away from the perp: stop, FBI! Chase ensues, bad guy gets away.
ReplyDeleteOr FBI International: there's no way they could be that arrogant in other countries. Well, until this era!
