I hate moderating and have now returned to normal because, let's face it, the blogger spam trap captures almost all of the spam. If it misses a few, I can easily send them into the great beyond in another simple step. It's just that the hundreds from Jessie caused me to turn up the security temporarily and probably needlessly.
===========================
Chronologically, this post came before croci and snow storms, but those posts seemed that they should take precedence, so I take you back to the beginning of the week.
The options for our daily hobble have been greatly reduced for the past few months because the trail isn't cleared during winter and walking becomes too difficult, or at least it does for a pair of seniors. First there comes snow, and then melting and refreezing and resulting ice, and it goes on and on.
We become reduced to three main options: the bridge (trail), our neighbourhood, and downtown. Gone are Riverside Park, and the Riverwalk Trail, and even our local part for some of the time
There are two or three options for the Riverwalk Trail. On Monday, we drove to the arena and walked from there.
We chose to get back onto the trail because it was mighty windy — AGAIN! — and the trail is usually a bit sheltered. But you can see from the billowing of Sue's cape that we weren't able to escape the stiff breeze nearly as much as we would have liked.
The world is not terribly attractive in this brown phase when the snow is gone (although it did snow on the next day) but when the greening has not begun. Nevertheless, we and a very few other hardy souls made the most of it.
Perhaps, we will soon try Riverside Park as well. There is still a bit of flooding in there, but I expect that a good chunk of the park path is walkable or soon will be.
It is another 'brown' season where the colors can only be found in a few leaves sticking out of the leaf debris or perhaps in moss or lichen. You got out and enjoyed the fresh air anyway!
ReplyDeleteKudos for you doing that!
I love Sue's cape! She almost appears to be a super hero!
Although it is brown, it is also very pretty. And spring is here, meaning better weather is ahead of us.
ReplyDeleteYou said it, the sun makes everything beautiful – let's hope it appears soon and conjures up blue skies.
ReplyDeleteWe should definitely not venture out onto the ice anymore.
Enjoy your early spring walks.
Hugs to you both.
You must have better luck with Blogger's spam filter than I do. Ninety percent of the posts marked as spam by Blogger are my own comments, generally on posts several weeks past. Usually the shorter the response I leave to a comment, the more likely it is to be marked as spam.
ReplyDeleteOh, I get those silly ones too, but I find that it usually does quite well with actual spam. In fact, I am going to check it for erroneous spams now . . . and yes, I found 3, and 2 were mine. lol
DeletePerhaps it's the season for spam. I've had dozens just recently. Annoying, but not treacherous (I hope)
ReplyDeleteK=Love the cape photo! Kudos to you both for persisting to go walking when the views are limited, but the fresh air (even if blowing) still is good for you!
ReplyDeleteWe are all looking forward to 'green'!
ReplyDeleteSue is always so stylish! The wind is the worst.
ReplyDeleteWe have the same brown coloration and more rain is forecast this entire weekend with a bit of snow, but hardly the wet, heavy snow in your area earlier.
ReplyDeleteYikes that was a lot of overnight spam and by contrast I've been getting way less than in the past (shhh don't want to jinx that). I have been reporting each and ery instance as spam/hishing and while I'm not 100% sure it's working, there is far less than in the past, just saying. And, I agree that comment moderation is too much effort.
It is a dreary time of year until the leaves start popping open.
ReplyDeleteThat daily walk is such a good habit. And we benefit from the pictures.
ReplyDeleteYou've reminded me I need to check the spam trap. It sends regular comments there at times.
ReplyDeleteJessie was SO annoying! Each one of her comments came through on my google.mail with a beep. She has been around on other blogs too. We never have brown here with all our evergreens but I'm always happy to see the blooming trees and flowers.
ReplyDeleteI like the term "brown phase." So true. And I'm longing for the green one! But at least your water is open so you get a hit of blue with all that!
ReplyDeleteGlad the spam trap is mostly doing its job now, and hopefully Jessie won’t be back!
ReplyDeleteWe have a flood advisory warning, but you are right, it is not overly high. I guess the snow got away in batches instead of waiting for the warm sun (ha) of April. And, yes, the wind has been miserable. JG did the yard policing for sticks and rubbish before that last spell and now has to do it again.
ReplyDeleteI wish we had a river to walk by. In Lanark Village you can sit and watch it, but no path.
Yes, I think batches describes it well.
DeleteYou're right about the brown phase of the year - and I'd add the still cold phase. How about some warmth!
