Oh the weather outside is ...

OMG! Seriously folks, it's May 8th, and I woke up to snow.

That was at 5AM, but it's now past 9AM, and it's still snowing. On the plus side, it's also melting, so there is actually less accumulation than earlier when I took the twp following photos: both from upstairs, with the first out front and the second out back.

At least it is light snow and better than the recent days of abundant rain which has caused all sorts of problems. Fortunately, my town seems to be managing well enough, but there are certainly flooding problems around and about.

In Renfrew up the Ottawa River
In Gatineau, down the Ottawa River, just across the river from Ottawa

In Constance Bay: a part of Ottawa
Farther downriver in Montreal where you also have to deal with the St Lawrence River
I could go on, but you get the idea. As far as I know, there is no danger to life, just to property, but it is still somewhat sobering.

The good news is that although there is more rain in the forecast this week, it does seem as though it will be light.

We are still building the ark here. But, we can't complain when we look at Ontario and Quebec. Our soil is still absorbing all the water. At least the aquifers will be full for this summer.

We are having a cold snap too. Snow in the highest elevations. No climate change, folks. Nothing to see here. Move along now. But seriously, I hope you get some spring soon.

What? Snow? And you are even more wet than we are here in Oregon. Yikes. That is very wet indeed. Hopefully those water levels go down soon.

Oh my gosh! Snow? That's crazy! In May? I don't remember that happening in Chicago. I think.

Just glad it is snow. That's a charming picture of the snow and the flowers. Stay warm now.

It's been awful!
Be careful using others' photos. You can be sued!

Guess Mother Nature has been less kinder with that May flooding and snowfall. We had an April Fools Day snowfall and lots of rain this month, but certainly not to the extent of the flooding you have shown, AC. It seems that Canada is suffering through too much rain as are so many U.S. states. Sadly, there have been many damages homes and lives.

It has been an interesting spring season. The trails we walked on Easter weekend along the Ottawa River are all flooded now. We thought the rivers were high in April.

And I just posted a blog entry complaining about our weather in Indiana. Sorry!! We have had lots of rain, but nothing like what you have pictured. Although some areas of Indiana have had flooding, we are fortunate to have nearby reservoirs to help prevent flooding. I went downtown earlier to check our the mighty Wabash River and it was up to the top of the boat ramp, but not over the banks.
Snow in May is very uncommon in our neck of the woods, but does happen. 72 years ago May 20th, when Mom and Dad brought me home from the hospital, it snowed and was cold enough that Dad had to put the oil stove back up in the house for heat. It had been warm all month and he had taken it down as was the process back then before they installed a furnace.
Maybe Spring will finally arrive in Canada and Indiana soon!

Wow!! Mother Nature is certainly reminding us all of who has the upper hand lately, for sure.
We have had a dreadful, long winter here on the east coast. But, like up your way, daffodils and tulips are starting to pop up. There is hope!

Cheers.
