Celebrating Bacon Sundays

I awoke at 4:30 on Sunday morning. Actually, I awoke somewhat earlier but got up at 4:30. Don't you hate it when that happens? It wouldn't be quite so irksome, if I had slept well before then, but it was kind of a fitful night.

Deciding to pamper myself, I grabbed a few bits of bacon from the fridge and had the bits with scrambled egg and toast.

It reminded me of a Sunday morning a long, long time ago.

I got up early enough for church. Needless to say, not many kids did that, so I pretty well had the huge cafeteria to myself.

Not having many diners, they piled copious quantities of bacon on my plate. I had never eaten much bacon because, according to mother, "It's fattening and doesn't have much food value."

She was right, of course, but I can tell you that the heaping plateful of bacon that morning was absolutely heavenly. More heavenly than the later service, for sure. lol

In fact, I have never looked at a pig the same way since.

Edit:  In response to Comments, I thought I might add that I was at Uni and it was the cafeteria there. It's amazing how a minor detail like that can flesh out the narrative.  lol

Your story of waking up so early is way too familiar to me. I hate laying there and staring at the ceiling unable to sleep. It does give me some good blogging time though....;)

I grew up on a farm so every weekend was the full breakfast/ brunch after chores . I love the smell of bacon in the mid mornings cooking . I wake up at 6:30 am every morning . Thanks for sharing . Have a good day !

Most of my nights resemble your first paragraph these days. So aggravating. Now that I CAN sleep in, well, I can't!

Grenville is a huge fan of bacon and Sunday morning it is usually served with pancakes.

Every day I say, hey, maybe I'll get up early tomorrow but I never do. Well, once I did. It was great. No bacon, though. Now I feel cheated.
