From the Inbox

Email forwards can be a pain, but at times they can also be worthwhile and interesting. For example, who knew that this coming July would be so unique? The month will contain 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays. Apparently, this only occurs once every 823 years.

EDIT: I take it back. I just looked at a real calendar, and this is wrong. There are 5 Saturdays, Sundays and Tuesdays (not Fridays). Grrrr.

Someone also sent this clip of a Chinese ballet company's version of Swan Lake. To me, it's ballet with a touch of Cirque de Soleil. Impressive.

  1. I am glad I show restaint on sending you items by email. To save an email, here is a database of poetry that the U of T has been collecting since before the Internet. http://rpo.library.utoronto.ca/

I guess this is a delivery by the back door.

  2. LOL, those things get posted on Facebook too, from time to time. The stuff about 823 years is rubbish, of course - any month pattern appears at least once every year, and any month with 31 days will have four full weeks plus three extra days (so, five of three days in a row). Snopes did a page about this hoax which is quite interesting in itself: http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/trivia/fivedays.asp

  4. I am so lucky people don't forward too much stuff to me. And if they do, I usually just delete the stuff. But I have to agree, once in a while there is a little gem to be had, like Swan Lake!

  5. I can't figure out if I love or don't love this Swan Lake. I usually like modern dance and often like new twists on old stuff, but this doesn't seem like dance, even though it's admirable and awe-inspiring

  6. I think you mean 5 Sun, Mon and Tues in July. I look for the months with 3 pays (2 a year) and circle them :-)
