Ya Gotta Laugh

I don't generally read science fiction, but a friend recently sent me a copy of a favourite book to help me through my convalescence: Callahan's Key by Spider Robinson. I quite enjoyed the humour, including the Dan Quayle quote featured at the beginning of each chapter (the book is set in 1989 when Quayle was relevant). While I, up here in Canada, was basically aware of his reputation, I had no idea that his sayings were so weird and funny. I've posted some of my faves below, and there are more at The Quotations Page and Brainy Quote.

Welcome to President Bush, Mrs. Bush, and my fellow astronauts.

[It's] time for the human race to enter the solar system.

One word sums up probably the responsibility of any vice president, and that one word is 'to be prepared'.

I believe we are on an irreversible trend toward more freedom and democracy - but that could change.

For NASA, space is still a high priority.

Republicans understand the importance of bondage between a mother and child.

I was recently on a tour of Latin America, and the only regret I have was that I didn't study Latin harder in school so I could converse with those people.

Back then we thought the educational and intelligence levels of our top elected officials could sink no lower -- but, we were wrong, oh, so wrong.

LOL! Very funny! Now Bush has taken Quayle's place when it comes to stupid quotes.

Wouldn't be wonderful if we had some leaders whose quotes made us think rather than laugh and shake our head ??

Yogi Berra lives! This kind of speaking errors must be a kind of learning difficulty.

I certainly remember Dan Quayle but Bush is even worse.

Laughing at what Paul said. The guy's speechwriter must have really had it in for him.

Yeah, we had an almost daily Quayle watch to see what inanity he would discover next. He never failed.

His spelling left something to be desired as well.

I'm not sure if Bush is worse or just seems that way because his lips are always moving.

I'm just glad 50 reporters don't follow me around and quote me all the time....

It's not what you say, it's how many repeat it!
