A Malaprop

Okay, I admit it, I was reading about the Ted Haggard brouhaha here on CBS News. I decided to peruse the comments beneath the article. Below, I have pasted a snippet from one of the comments. I'm not trying to poke fun at anyone; it just struck me as a very funny malapropism in a very unfunny, very sad situation. I don't know how long these pages and comments stay accessible on pages such as these, but it exists at this link on the CBS site as I write this.

"We have no right to judge him. The same stick we judge with will be judged against us. No sin is greater.
This is why we shouldn't put people on pedal stools."

Yup, those pedal stools are dangerous contraptions.

LOL!

It does make me ill, though, when I hear about these "holy" leaders and they are all horrific hypocrites. It makes me sad that people put such faith in fallible human beings.

What a hoot! Sounds like something you'd find in a bike repair-shop!

Ha ha, that's funny. But I'm always afraid of doing something like that when commenting in a hurry before leaving for work!

PS –
A few years ago, Allen Greenspan - Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve, was admitted to the hospital with an enlarged prostrate. The new agencies faithfully mentioned this and (wondrously) got it correct.

The Closed Captioning on CNN however reported that he was admitted to the hospital with "an enlarged prostitute".

It is a humorous.. but I am afraid I can not chuckle too long or too deeply. I have been guilty of just as bad usage of the language. Articulate.. I am not. But that does not stop me from trying. :-)

I got a little lost on the judging sticks, but then lost it myself on the pedal stools. Too funny.

That reads almost as if it were staged...I wonder if the writer has a sense of humor.
The whole thing is a mess and I just wish we could throw everyone in power (politically and in the churches)out and start over.!!
Thanks for your nice comment on my most recent blog...it means a lot to me.

The good pastor was also peddling for global warming, and was leading the charge for conservative Christians to fall for it. Fell right off his pedal stool.

Yep, those pedal stools are dangerous things, especially when you fall off onto your judging sticks. ec

My uncle, a retired English teacher, tells the story of singing "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" as a child. For years he thought the phrase "Oh come let us adore him" was - "Oh come little Sadora".

When I sang the "Star Spangled Banner" as a kid - I thought it was 'dawnserly' - one word - not two as in 'dawn's early light.' Sigh. I've not a clue as to what I thought it meant.

Reminds me of a comedian I saw years ago. I missed half his jokes because I was laughing so hard from the previous ones. He put on a pair of thick rubber gloves, opened this huge peanut butter jar and with a pair of tongs, carefully extracted a little wooden seat.

He said,

"It's a STOOL SAMPLE!"

I've seen you all over on "comments" and decided to check out your page. I love it...great sense of humor and interesting insights. I also enjoyed your pictures of Sedona. I've been there 4 times and it's magnificent.
