Window on Winter

On a whim, I have decided to share this early and little touch of winter with you.

This scene greeted me a few minutes ago when I came upstairs. This schoolyard is our view from the bedroom window. Children playing in the snow at recess seems quintessentially Canadian, almost as Canadian as skating on a frozen pond, so I couldn't resist.

If I am counting right, this is the fourth morning when we have awaken to a smattering of snow, but there is a little more today, and it was still falling lightly in the picture. The roads were slick this morning, and a number of accidents occurred. They always do in the first snowfall. We were going to go into town today, but tomorrow is supposed to be clear and sunny, and we can wait.

Meanwhile, I trust that not too many Americans are experiencing bad weather on Thanksgiving when some of you tend to travel many miles to be with family. Good weather or bad, I bid you ...

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks for the greeting. Nice pic. We don't have any snow here. I can definitely wait for it to come.

Good pic. We are so far south that all I can say is - I hope it does snow down here. On average we might get a light snow about once every three years.

With that in mind, we had 21" in our front yard in '73 - it was a snow of a lifetime for us and the whole area came to a halt for about 3 days. We are very poorly equipped to deal with anything even close to that. It was kinda nice to be snowed in then, but I'm sure that would get old in a hurry. ec

The picture reminds me of the school yard scene from the movie, A Christmas Story. Do I see Flick out there with his tongue frozen to the flagpole?

When I lived in Montana, we saw scenes like that, and ice skating on frozen ponds as well - it is so lovely.

I hope you had an awesome day. I know I did. Lovely pic. It is snowing here too. Looks like it might turn to rain though.

What a lovely photo! The snow here in Winnipeg doesn't look so pretty as we had a few days of above zero temps. More will come, I'm sure.
Thanks for posting the picture.

Great picture!

We had BAD weather in SW Michigan. At the last minute dinner was moved from my sister's farther north to here. Even then, we had two family members who couldn't make it due to the weather.

The sixteen of us who were here had a lovely time.

Clear here on the mountain so far. Possible snow today. Happy Thanksgiving, Anvil!

Nice picture! We don't get snow here though it's turning a bit chilly now December is nearly here. I can't say I miss it, though. We never got much in the UK, but we lived for two years in Colorado Springs in the USA, and had more than a lifetime's worth of snow there.

Thanks for the "window" into your world, AC.

It is nice to see people having fun in the snow. I rarely get to see it as I am not even a skier.

But, we plan to definitely take Mr. P up this year for his first exposure to snow. I can't wait.

This is a wonderful "picture of the world," not only because it evokes such cheerfulness and happiness, but because so often all we see is pictures of this scene, or in the movies. You're proving that these moments truly do exist, and sharing a part of their wonder. Almost makes me want to go and sharpen up my skates, although we barely have any snow yet, let alone ice, in St. Paul, MN. And last winter, the rinks weren't open very long because, believe it or not, it wasn't cold enough. Thanks!

Just read your interesting comment on mreddie's page, and I decided that I needed to check you out. Thanks for the Thanksgiving wishes; it was cold but no snow in Philly. Now Canada--it gets cold there, but it is such a beautiful place!
