Sorry, Barbara

Having recently posted my adoration of all things Barbara Kingsolver, I regret to inform you that I am giving up on her latest tome, Lacuna. I may be missing a spellbinder in the last 500 pages as opposed to the first rather plodding 200 pages, but that's a chance that I will have to take. I think Kingsolver does the ordinary but resourceful female, as opposed to an historical male protagonist, very well and should consider returning to those roots. With 500 pages left forever unread, perhaps I am being rash, but for me, Lacuna seemed to be a passageway to nowhere.

Well A/C I was disappointed when I first started to read this book. All the puttering around that little bit of water, can't remember river, creek, stream what ever, but I am sorry you missed the ending of this book. Quite A surprise.

I'll bring the Harry Potter series and we can have a nice bonfire.

I agree with you, AC, that if you are not enjoying a book, but plodding along then give it up. It's happened to me lately after starting the current novel of an author others regard as "wonderful." But that was not my thoughts. And I am also applying the same process to films. If I'm not drawn in within the first 15 minutes, it's time to say "Next." Life is too short and there are so many books and films...so little time.

I give a book about three pages, if it doesn't get me by then, I won't read it! Poor Barbara, what will she do?! Love Di ♥

Me thinks you gave up too soon, but there are so many good books out there. I am reading Andre Agassi's "Open" and am so happy I had the poor but loving parents I had....all things are not what they seem with these high profile people, I realize the simple life is not so bad after all.....Hugs
