My Theology

Whoda thunkit?

Here I sit: a fundamentalist-bred, charismatically-raised person, exuding all of the following liberal, theological traits. At one time, I would have scoffed at the notion of ever obtaining result like this (see below). At one time, I was so sure. At one time, I knew almost everything. Now, I know nothing and believe little.

Actually, it astonishes me that intelligent people with backgrounds like mine never waver, never doubt, never question. There are tons of these people out there. They are as intelligent as I and probably much more so (for it's hard not to be), but their minds don't go in the same directions as mine. They are not wrong to be like this; I simply find it hard to understand how they could be like this. Perhaps, in a way, I envy their faith and conviction, but, on the whole, I think I'd rather be me.

You scored as Classical Liberal. You are a classical liberal. You are sceptical about much of the historicity of the Bible, and the most important thing Jesus has done is to set us a good moral example that we are to follow. Doctrines like the trinity and the incarnation are speculative and not really important, and in the face of science and philosophy the surest way we can be certain about God is by our inner awareness of him. Discipleship is expressed by good moral behaviour, but inward religious feeling is most important.

I remember taking that test before, but I don't remember what I was. I might have to try it again.

I actually didn't think they would even have a category for me. I started questioning a long time ago and am completely confused with by blind faith.

Hi AC. Thanks for the links to the digital photography articles. They were great! I started a photoblog today, http://jenseyes.blogspot.com. Thanks again!

Me too, AC. Emergent/Postmodern. No surprise there. Stay the course, my friend. Continue to question. Continue to doubt. It is the only path toward Truth.

OK, so I took the test and all I got was a one line reply:

May God Have Mercy on Your Soul!

This can't be a good thing, I'm thinking.

I've taken this test before, too. It's back in my postings somewhere (I think) or on someone's comments (Sumo's?) I've have to go and check. It was interesting!

I'm 71% Neo Orthodox.

I was hoping to get extra points for behaving in a loving manner to the old ladies at my church who hate my husband.

Gotta love 'em...

*expression of sheer shock*

I scored 75% classic liberal.

I think Jesus was an interesting guy, but thats it. Not the son of God. Had some neat ideas, and a great following. I wish I had as much sway as the guy.

Christianity is the only religion that believes Jesus was the son of God. Most other monotheistic religions consider him nothing more than a prophet.

Amen.

Call me an emergent/postmodern with mostly classical liberal and Catholic leanings.

No big surprises there. Even though classical liberal and Catholic aren't necessarily compatible these days, it seems. I truly believe that if Jesus were alive today, he would be classified as a liberal.

It was an interesting quiz, AC. Thanks for linking.
