How D'ya Like Dem Apples?

Yesterday, this being October and all, apples were available abundantly and inexpensively at the grocery store. I picked eight that were neither abundant nor inexpensive. They cost almost four times as much — nearly a dollar an apple — but for the brief time that they're available, they're worth it.

You see, a Honeycrisp apple tastes great "as its sweetness, firmness, and tartness make it an ideal apple for eating raw." (Wikipedia) They are a relatively new variety developed in Minnesota less than twenty years ago, so they are not to be had in abundance yet.

They're very good though and really not much more expensive in autumn than Galas are in winter. If you haven't experienced them yet, and if they're available where you are, why not try a few. I'd like to know if you agree with me.
