Our walks are getting briefer and slower. I have been hobbling with my right foot for awhile, and now the knee is acting up. It's like it locks when I am walking or sometimes even when I am sitting. Sue has also been having some trouble with her foot and now has stubbed her toes so badly that two toes are very bruised and swollen.
But the weather has improved, so we keep on keeping on.
Rather than expend energy by walking to the neighbourhood park, we drove, and once there, were able to stroll along the trail for a way. We spied a little family of geese next to the pond.
On another day, the heron showed up at the pond. He made photography difficult by staying either in the bushes or at a distance, but Sue did her best.
On another occasion we went to Riverside Park where canoes drew the eye as they always do.
Before our next and final walk, for this post anyway, a funny thing occurred. I donned my new, tighter and better fitting shorts. When we were ready to set out, I patted my pocket for the car keys. They weren't there. I searched and searched; they weren't anywhere. I have a Tile attached, so I activated the app. It was beeping crazily, so the keys were nearby, but I still couldn't find them. I looked in all of the same places and patted myself down again but kept coming up empty.
In frustration, I patted my right pocket one more time, and there they were.
It's the new shorts, I tell you. The pockets are aligned a bit differently, so the keys were not where I normally pat my pockets and where I have been locating them for many a decade. Sue just rolls her eyes.
We then drove to the trail bridge on a very beautiful day where I snuck a picture of a cyclist who stopped to gaze up the river.
The other sight for yesterday was the flowers by the abandoned building where I have earlier photographed crocuses and squill. We found pretty little white flowers that the app identified as Star of Bethlehem. There were also a few forget-me-nots in the frame.
Now, I have a bit of an earworm.
"Beautiful Star of Bethlehem" is a popular Christmas song, particularly within gospel and bluegrass traditions. It's a traditional carol that often appears in hymnbooks and has been recorded by many artists, including the Stanley Brothers, Emmylou Harris, and Rhonda Vincent. (Google AI)
I've had an embarrassing occasion of putting the keys in my back pocket (who ever heard of such a thing?) after locking the car in a parking lot far from home. Purse was in trunk of said car, and a half hour later a roadside assistant from AAA came and got the trunk open...still no keys. Finally found them in that pocket of very tight jeans. You captured the cyclist just because of his tight shorts I'm sure! Hope all your ailments heal and you can be walking around again soon. Here it's limited by the smoke from you-know-where!
I've been known to panic about losing the bag which turned out to be on my shoulder! Sorry to hear about your various walking issues. Can they be treated? I hope so.
Ahah! I found some Stars of Bethlehem in my wilder flower garden! Thanks for the ID! Oh I am terrible with keys. I purchased a carabiner to attach it to the inside of my back pack or to my belt loops. I loose my cell phone in the house all of the time. Hopeless me.
I hope your knee improves. Oh and wonderful shots. I saw a lot of wildlife yesterday and didn't have a lens to 'catch' them. Still, it was fun.
Your walks, even slower now, are still rich with beauty and discovery. Thanks for sharing the peaceful scenes and memories, especially the sweet nod to the Star of Bethlehem
I am sorry you and Sue are having foot/leg challenges! That is very rough. For you, perhaps specific stretching may alleviate some of the discomfort and/or locking of the knee (loosening tendons). For Sue, it seems it will just take time for the stubbed toes to recover.
Do you like your Tiles? I have gotten some (a while ago) but have not put them on as I did not feel like figuring out the gizmos at the time. I should do it though, for misplaced items (keys and wallet are the plan) aggravate the hell out of me. But…. ironically, I now have to try to figure out where I stored the damn tiles before I can try to use them. ๐
My feet are giving me a bit more trouble too and I dread having pain when I walk. Not fun. Good for you two for keeping on! Love the two flowers--what a gorgeous shot!
Despite mobility issues, you both keep going on, maybe at a slower pace, but still going, Lately, I have been feeling much the same with my ongoing knee issue, which is better than before but still irksome at times. I have also misplaced (not lost) my keys while in the apt, but never put them in the fridge ๐
We've all had what I call "stupid key things." Sometimes I think I have more than most -- including one yesterday similar to yours! Hey, if you want to walk out of your range, what's wrong with a drive there? You'll enjoy it more if you aren't hurting!
I have somewhat solved the keys in the wrong pocket problem. All our vehicles are now push button start and no longer require keys. Anytime I am away from home, I just have a fob in my pocket that I no longer feel for until I push the button. Occasionally as I attempt to leave home though, I will push the button and nothing will happen and then I will realize that the key fob is in the pocket of the clothes I was wearing yesterday and didn't get transferred over. If they ever come up with an implantable chip that does what a key fob does for push button start, I would probably be first in line.
Re keys and pockets. Imagine eyes rolling here, too. I sent JG to the downstairs freezer for the meat for supper yesterday afternoon and he reported that it was not there. It must have been on a short vacation, however, because when I looked in the freezer, it WAS there. And on top of the stack, too. A bit frosted over, but legible. I must make a note not to buy the man shorts that fit well.
You may call it male pattern blindness, a term coined by my BIL. In a similar vein we have called our women ‘womb trackers’ for the uncanny ability to find things. Recently we both forgot that we needed an egg make a meat loaf. That was yesterday. We will, therefore, make it today.

Love that Star of Bethlehem flower, but I won't listen to that video because then I would have caught that earworm.
ReplyDeleteMy husband will lose his in a pocket but in pants in the dirty clothes basket.

ReplyDeleteI hope you both soon find some relief from your ailments. It's miserable when legs and feet let you down.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Sue on the eye-rolling. Do it all the time.
ReplyDeleteWill your ailments heal themselves or are they settled in for life now?

ReplyDeleteOh I have many stories of lost keys. Just like your loss, they weren't very far away.
ReplyDeleteHa! Can't believe it! I did the exact same thing at the grocery store today!!! Dear heavens! Stood in the parking lot slapping myself!
ReplyDeleteSorry about the aches. Your keys anecdote? Relatable, but it's usually my phone.
ReplyDeleteI admire you both for keeping on

DeleteLove those forget-me-nots and white blooms together. I’ve seen a lot of white forget-me-nots this year.
ReplyDeleteSorry you're hobbling so much, but losing your keys in your pocket, that's priceless!
ReplyDelete"Sue just rolled her eyes."
ReplyDeleteHa Ha!
I have checked every pocket of a purse very carefully and still not found keys till the second or even third try. Hornswoggling, isn't it.
Some years ago I became enamoured of Beautiful Star of Bethlehem and posted every video performance of it that I could find. There were many!
I spend a lot of time rolling my eyes around here!
