Festival of the Maples

We had company on the weekend, and one of our activities was to take in the Festival of the Maples in Perth. We were in total shock at the crowds on Gore Street as Canadians swarmed to this early spring outing after being cooped up all winter. There are many coats in evidence as the day started cool and rainy, but the weather was warming up nicely by this time.

I am not a street photographer, but I became one for an hour or so on Saturday. Here are some of my shots from our stroll.

The above may be my fave of the day, but I also like the next one. Do you think the guy is put out with me? Are you taking a picture of ME?  lol

This vendor ↑ looks glum, but maybe he was just tired. I think the next fellow has a great look

Although he doesn't look like the type to me, this guy ↑ needed a cuppa, but this vendor ↓ was happy counting his money.

Not to forget the pretty ladies, she ↑ seemed to be searching for anybody who wanted to take a studio tour. And what a pretty dish ↓ I spied in the crowd. I wonder who she is.

Nice shots! The glum looking guy is Brian Riff, one of our neighbours, who was probably showing his alpacas. Some of the other faces I recognise, but don't have names to pin to them.
We used to sell syrup at the festival, long, long ago.
I like the bearded guys in greytone. Brings up the textures.

There were many alpaca vendors present as well as many maple syrup vendors. We started the day at Wheelers where we had our fill of both.

Wow.. that's some crowd. I do like the character you've captured in the first portrait but to me, the fellow pouring tea is a terrific shot. I'd love to see how it looks in black and white. To me, it begs to be monochrome.

as always, superior camera-ready-people-finding. You have to say that out loud to get it right.

I was wondering about all the facial hair until I saw some ladies included as well. Unless...

You say you're not a street photographer but I'd say you should be !! I'd also say you should take that lady in the last shot home with you ... betcha she'd go with you too !!

A great set of character studies - old boys with whiskers win hands down! lol

The street scene is almost identical to the Elmira main street during their maple syrup festival. It is a good crowd with some very interesting faces!

Thanks for the tour. I always like the old machinery. I almost bought a complete forge once when I was at an auctions of one man's dreams of self sufficiency. Sad! I bought an older model hay mower instead. I loved to see the White Rose gas pump. I remember when there was an White Rose Station at the foot of Bathurst Street, on Front Street in Toronto. You have a wonderful collection of country boys sporting beards. I was fascinated by the one you commented on as a favourite. He was wearing some wonderful stripped long underwear. I would have like to have see the whole union suit. I cannot see an alpaca or a Llama without reciting to myself Ogden Nash's poem, " The one "l" Lama is a priest, the two "l" Llama is a beast, but I will bet a silk pajama there is no three "l" Lllama."
I hope you got to go home with that fetching blonde your were stalking in the crowd. :)
