Holy Hotness Eh

Here's another Canadian myth gonzo, eh? I say Canadian in the sense of what others may think about this country 'cause we know better, eh? To wit: the snow does melt, and when it does, it can get pretty blinkin hot, eh? If you don't believe me, take a look at the thermometer, eh? (The little numbers are the ones our southern neighbours will want to check out.)

Yikes! It was hot enough to melt the hinges on hell's doors. So, I thought I should take the boy to the water park. This is not a water park in the sense of slides and wave pools, just a town park where they spray some water around.

Zach was pretty tentative: did a lot of standing and staring trying to figure out to what foreign scape his Buppa had taken him.

Okay then ... I'll touch the water. Yikes! It's wet.

Huh? You want me to wade in here? Right in the river? Is it safe?

Actually, it wasn't safe. A stumble later, and he was experiencing life as the fishies see it. After swallowing a mouthful, he decided to head back to he fountains and play in the much safer runoff by the drain.

Eventually, his Buppa took pity on the kid and nudged him away from the water and over to the swings. Bliss.

Even as I write this post it's 32°C/90°F — at 9:30pm. Hard to believe. EH?

A Break

We're off for a few days, but I'll leave you with a few photos of unohoo. You do know, don't you? I mean, I don't really have to spell it out, do I?

Anyway, we and Mom took Nikki Dee to the waterpark on the weekend. It's not really what you normally think of as a waterpark though. It's not commercial with waves and chutes and things. It's just a community park alongside the river where they have a little bit of water spraying about. I sat there with the camera for most of the session this time around while the women pandered to The Bonnie Wee One. And these are some of the shots that I took.

Meanwhile, y'all have a good few days.

Oh, I also apologize to Cuppa and to those of you who also read her blog because there will be some duplication. This can be hard to avoid since we're pretty well joined at the hip.

Grandfather Goose

I know I'm really a gander, but nobody really uses the proper term. Besides, there was a famous film called Father Goose starring Cary Grant, no less, and if it's okay with the mighty and omniscient Hollywood ...

To the point: the diligent warding of the Canada Goose always impresses me. It seems that they are always on the job — ever watchful. (Aside: we were recently informed that mother goose can't even fly when the goslings are young. Must be true. Who would make it up?)

I often feel like Grandfather Goose as I shadow The Bonnie Wee One in potentially hazardous situations ... of which there are many. Like at the local park where we took her for the first time, especially when she wandered towards and into the river.

She had a grand time: loved the waterplay so much that her teeth were chattering.

Fortunately, she also loves the swing and was content to warm up for quite awhile.

Zach is a little young but managed to enjoy himself in his own way.

And didn't the clever fellow actually roll over for the first time that night? Apparently, Nikki Dee was so tired after her busy day that she fell asleep in her own swing at home.

BTW: only six months until Christmas.

Sitting by the Dock

... Kicking and Splashing

Friday afternoon found us taking the Bonnie Wee One to the park, the park to walk in by the river as opposed to the playground from which it is difficult to extricate the munchkin. As we wandered in, we stooped (or rather, I stooped, while she stood) to gaze at a nearby gaggle of Canada geese. And didn't these feisty creatures make a beeline to us, and wasn't the leader hissing confrontationally, and didn't we, therefore, forthwith beat a hasty retreat? One doesn't fool around with a Canada Goose in a temper, not when one has a baby in tow anyway.

We wandered down to the little dock where Niks insisted on getting her feet in. So, Grampa held on as tightly as possible while she did her thing.

She splashed long and hard, and we both got wet, but it was fun.

Cuppa has posted a short video clip of the same event.

Of Ear Worms and Waterplay

Sunday Morning: before a certain chore must be done today, I have a bit of time on my hands. So, I have chosen a few photos for your viewing pleasure. You're welcome. But before I get to them, I must tell you that I am blaring music in an effort to rid my brain of an ear worm.

I hadn't heard that term until a few weeks ago when I came across it twice within a week, once from reading and once from hearing. It's simply the term that some use for a song that gets stuck in your head. Usually it's just a fragment of a song, and it tends to drive one to distraction. In my case it was Raffi's Bamana Phone, and I'll allow you three guesses should you need that many to guess why a Raffi song is stuck in my head.

So, the iPod is in the speakers, and I'm playing it rather loudly — considering the size of this room and that I'm only about a yard from the speakers. It's actually not that loud in decibel terms.

It's turned hotter than the hinges of hell here in the past few days, so we allowed Nikki Dee a little water play after taking her to the park the other day. The dainty little princess got rather filthy playing in the sand, so the water both cleansed and cooled. I took these pictures through a gap in the gazebo-style tent. She seems quite contemplative in the first.

And then the splashing began in earnest.
