Our Day-Early Thanksgiving

Our little family observed Thanksgiving on the day before the official date. One makes accommodations when the kids split their time between two households and especially when the other grandmother plans a big, traditional gathering and dinner out of town.

Sue and I did one of our customary morning strolls and spent most of the afternoon at home before heading over to Sha's around 5 o'clock.

We took one more photo from the bridge looking upriver as Sue continues to look for the best conditions to complete her four seasonal photos from the same spot. This was my version but not too dissimilar from hers.

I've been playing around with selfies more than usual with the new phone. I'll explain more about it all someday.

With an orange-themed week coming up, Sue took this one of me, but she never knows ahead of time what all parts of the prompt might be, so I don't yet know if she'll actually use it for her group.

At the official get-together later, I grabbed a typical shot of JJ absorbed with his phone.

Sha took this selfie with my camera after I showed her how it worked. Once again, I'll save the explanation for a later date.

Everyone had a turn with my phone, and Dani took this one of me in portrait mode.

And Sue took one of Dani and me sitting side by side.

There wasn’t much else, apart from delish lasagna and apple pie although Jonathan's girlfriend did drop by, and he then became quite happy to get away from his phone.

Oh, two more: both are selfies. I had only known about Christmas crackers until then, but Sha found Thanksgiving crackers, which were basically just like the Christmas ones.

We can't be the only family that does crackers. Do you?

  1. We always have crackers at Christmas. If I saw Thanksgiving ones I would probably have them too. We had a great Thanksgiving with family too.

  2. My American (sigh, used to be something to be proud of) family never did crackers. Love your portraits, especially the profile in B&W of you curled up. It's lovely. All are, actually. Keep having fun with that camera! Oh, I also enjoyed the outdoor color photos!

  5. We get crackers for Christmas eve, and often forget and end up opening them on New Year's eve or day. We'll move our holidays around as well, I would rather have everyone there than celebrate on "the" day. Happy Thanksgiving! How was the pie?

  7. I don't know what crackers are except crunchy things that you eat. Am I missing something? Jonathan's girlfriend is very pretty and I love all the photos. Goofy faces are what selfies are all about.

  8. No idea what crackers actually are; even after people talk about them and show pictures, I'm not sure how they work.

  9. Another one who does not know about crackers, other than the eating kind. Some very nice photos. The two cuties are a lovely couple.

  12. Great photos! Super seeing you and Sue with your family. I know all about crackers, though only at Christmas. Growing up in the UK I continued the tradition here with my own family.

  13. These are such fun photos. Our photographer friend has an upgraded iphone also. Uuummm... I still have the 14. Sigh... Anyway. I love all your experimentations. That portrait one of you with the dark background is really artistic and dramatic. But all your photos are such fun. I can't get over how big your grandkids have gotten.

  15. We do Christmas crackers, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Thanksgiving ones. Great pictures, Happy Thanksgiving!

  16. We always had Christmas crackers on the table as a child growing up in the UK - was fun to pull the end with someone else to make the cracker ‘bang’ and discover what was inside. A tissue paper hat - a trinket of some sort- and of course a corny joke.
They are called Bon Bons here in Australia
