Our walk was nothing to shout about yesterday, especially since we didn't take any photos, which really does not seem proper.
Indian Summer is a term that no one seems to use anymore. I guess it is frowned upon now for racial reasons, but Second Summer just doesn't do it. Does it?
Google Calendar sends me notices that we started up the furnace on this or that date in previous years, but we are hanging in there rather easily halfway through this October. In both 2020 and 2022, we had capitulated and turned the heat on by now.
I peered up from my chair yesterday morning near 7:30 and saw an orange glow, so I grabbed my phone and took this photo. In post, I chose to crop into panorama mode and the render the houses as silhouettes.
Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI don't keep track of when I turn the furnace on. I'm guessing late October. I usually postpone it by running a fireplace insert for a few minutes in the morning and now warming the bed briefly with a heating pad at night. But we're still getting fairly mild weather. I'm so reluctant to admit it's cold enough to switch on the winter heating.
ReplyDeleteLovely dawn photo! Hope the phone carrier change is uneventful!
ReplyDeleteAfter a full week since I turned off the heat again, I finally caved and turned on the air conditioner last night as it was quite muggy and hot here. Mother Nature just needs to pick a direction at this point!
ReplyDeleteIt's Very pretty!

Very beautiful! We've have overcast skies for a few days and some rain. However the trees decided to go into full fall mode just in the past two days!
ReplyDeleteI thought we were not going to have a pretty fall.
Also, I love that shot. Well done.
Lovely sunrise!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo! I've had the furnace on on and off for at least a week. We have been in the mid 30s F or about 2 C some nights.
ReplyDeleteA nice photo in any event!
ReplyDeleteGlorious sky! We seem to be in a pattern of one day on, one day off with the fire
ReplyDeleteI hope your phone does get sorted out today. It feels more like second spring? You're reminding me I need to have our fireplace looked at now, before I need it!
ReplyDeleteI have an electric space heater in the bathroom. Makes life bearable, in this house with many windows.
ReplyDeleteI don't ever turn my furnace off or on--does one do that by cranking down the temperature on the thermostat? Right now, our mornings are in the high 30s, so my heat pump/furnace (?) are on and so is my gas fireplace. Love the color of the sky!
ReplyDeleteWe were down to 17.5 ˚C this morning but the sun has heated us up to 20˚ so no furnace yet.
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice picture though.
ReplyDeleteI'm hanging (shivering) in there too, but my house is a bit uncomfortably cold today but as soon as my wife returns...I know what will happen, ha.
ReplyDeleteOnly one photo - and what a splendiforous one it is.
ReplyDeleteIt has a soothing orange colour in the sky. I find it relaxing to look at
ReplyDeleteThat is a cool picture. We haven't turned on the heat yet. The overnight dehydrating is enough to keep the chill off. We also sleep with the bedroom door closed and both windows opened about 3 inches. We like being cozy under our blankets with fresh air on our faces.
ReplyDeleteThe lows are about 40f in eastern WA State right now. Just enough to kick on the furnace a bit in the early AM. Very cloudy this morning, sunny this afternoon. The big maple in front of my home has not begun turning colors yet so I'd say autumn hasn't quite arrived. It's OK by me if it takes it's time.
ReplyDeleteNice sunrise. Good work on the furnace front.
ReplyDeleteLove that colour! Great capture!
ReplyDeleteMaybe one photo, but it was a good one!
ReplyDeletePretty sky. Hope things get sorted out with your phone carrier smoothly. I switched recently from Verizon to TMobile, and it was a big headache. Verizon makes it hard to discontinue service.
ReplyDeleteWe have not succumbed to turning on the heat as well. Daytime temps have been cooler and evenings delightful sleeping under a lightweight warm quilt. We sill definitely hold off till Nov as we’re leaving on a trip to warmer climes this weekend.
ReplyDeleteOne photo is always hard to choose but you found a perfect one. I have a hard time not saying Indian Summer too. Too many years of it. But try we must, I guess.
ReplyDeleteThat single photo you captured of the orange glow is absolutely stunning, though. The way you rendered the houses as silhouettes in panorama mode makes it look so atmospheric and professional. Sometimes that one perfect shot is all you need.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing you are still holding out on the furnace this late in October. We are definitely having a mild spell, even if "Indian Summer" has fallen out of use. I agree, "Second Summer" just lacks the same ring to it.
I hope your phone transition is fully sorted out today so you can get back to capturing your walks.
I like that photo. We capitulated and turned on one stove this week, but i still have the kitchen window open. I just don't want give up the fresh air!
