Lest We Forget

I was disappointed on Remembrance Eve. I had wanted to take some photos of the cadet's vigil at the cenotaph like I did last year. But alas, it was even colder and windier that last year, if that's possible, and so I let the notion die.

But Remembrance Day itself was calm and sunny, cold but still appealing. So, off we went to stand in the cold and honour the soldiers of the past, and even of the present, by showing up.

Veterans, soldiers and cadets marched in.

Hymns were played, wreaths were laid, and names of the fallen were read.

We will remember.

Wonderful pictures AC and it's evident that, despite the weather, honoring those who lost their lives was uppermost. I am so ashamed and horrified to see how our disgusting President handled the same day. I pray we have stopped him in time …

Great pics, AC. I see our current 'president' has once again embarrassed the US and been his usual disgrace to humanity.

Good for you for showing up (unlike He Who Shall Not Be Named.) Wonderful pictures that express the solemnity of the occasion.

Missed our parade. Maybe next year I will get out in the cold and take some photos.

Our town puts on a big Memorial Day parade and observance, but there is no Armistice Day observance. Considering the number of Americans who served in WWI, along with the many, many Brits and Canadians, I am surprised there is relatively little recognition. This is the war my grandmother told me about, and my dad, around the supper table. Those times are gone.

It looks like your local service was well attended, and fitting the occasion. I took in the national service, which was as always very moving.

Great coverage of the ceremony, AC.

The observances in your area were more populated and well attended in comparison to the one here in Nashua. We had a downtown parade on Veterans Day, Sunday, along Main St. We attended as in previous years but there was not a large crowd.

Lovely photos. I'm glad you attended.
