Before and After Surgery

Because a certain little girl had her tonsils and adenoids removed this week, had her ears mucked out, and had tubes inserted in both ears, I think she should be bestowed with some photos on Buppa's Wall of Fame. So let's start with a few happy photos from the days before surgery when she is exhibiting her usual happiness with life.

After the operation times were a little tough for the poor tyke, with few smiles and looking very wan. She was and still is on both morphine and antibiotics. The first picture was taken with Mom in recovery and the second at home later that day.

On the day after, however, she is beginning to show some life and colour as she sits with Amma who is reading her a story or two or three.

We're supposed to keep her very quiet for a few days and somewhat restrained for a few weeks. Good luck with that since she actually suggested going swimming on the day after.

Poor baby girl! But she's a brave one isn't she? It's good to know that she has such a wonderful family to take care of her. And good luck keeping her "Somewhat Restrained" for a few weeks!
Hope she starts feeling better soon.

Nothing is harder than knowing your child is not feeling well and especially that sinking feeling as they go into surgery. As hard as it is somehow children pop back far quicker than we ever could. I am glad that surgery is over and that she is already looking forward to swimming......the worst is over AC and she will soon be back to her happy bubbly self. Sending big hugs to that wonderful little girl, wishing you all a good weekend.
.....:-)Hugs

She does look pale in the picture where she is sitting on your lap. It will be interesting to see if you manage to restrain that natural love of life she has!

The first picture is beautiful, in her pose and in the setting. Best wishes to the little patient. I am sure she will not be restrained. All 3 of our girls had the same surgery and they were down for 2-3 days at the most if I recall correctly.(our twins were done the same day)

It seems like an awful lot for one little girl to go through ... but I'm so glad it's behind her. The look on her mother's face says it all.
As Diana said, it's wonderful that she has such a loving family to sustain her.

Get well wishes for the young patient. The ice pop looks refreshing, but we would have held out for ice cream..chocolate, please. Good luck on keeping Danica quiet and restrained for 2 weeks.

Poor girl.... But good to know she is feeling a bit more lively.
I remember OlderSon's tonsils op. He lay on the sofa afterwards wrapped in a blankie and had a little bell to ring every time he needed something. I got quite tired of hearing that little bell!!!

AC, Nikki seems to be doing well. It's difficult to keep kids down. Griffyn, my great nephew just had surgery and he has to be very careful for a couple of weeks. They are already trying to keep him from running.

Drop by my blog if you have a chance. Some good news for Brandon.

Hope you and Cuppa are enjoying your summer.

Awww poor little sweetie. I'm glad to hear she's on the mend though. They heal so quickly. When my younger son was 6, he had surgery to repair a hernia. He was on his bike the following day, and break dancing at a wedding three days post op. They're a resilient lot. I hope she back to herself in no time.

Poor baby. I'm sure the special pampering that only grandparents can provide will help with her recuperation. And wax ear plugs and a snug swim cap will allow some pool time (my son had tubes in his ears from the time he was eighteen months old until he was ten.)

So glad to get the post-report. I wondered when surgery would be, and how things went. Now I know.
The only good thing about a child being sick is their utter willingness to be held, just held. Such times are precious for the grown-ups.
You may see her have a surge in growing, eating etc. with the tonsils and tubes all taken care of.

May recovery come soon. At least, you were all there to rally around her. Lot of ice cream is in order.

When I was taken from my mother's arms, aged 5), when I had polio, she was not allowed to see me for a week, after she had promised to come and see me before she left. When I was moved to a another rural hospital to recover she could only come once a weak as we did not have a car. All this has an effect on me, I am afraid. I did recover in spite of missing out on lots of TLC. I have not been in a hospital since.

Aren't you allowed to eat all the ice-cream you want when you had your tonsils out? At least that's the way it is in the Netherlands.

I hope she will feel better soon and can go swimming again very soon.

Sad little face. And how is Buppa doing?

Aww. Hope she's better soon. Had a hard time finding your blog, incidentally... the one I have in Google Reader is evidently no longer valid (did I miss something) and anvilcloud.net has apparently been taken over by some medical advice place. Then I went to the link in your recent comment to me, and tried that... but your blogspot blog wouldn't load either. So I had to resort to the cached edition. I hope this comment gets through...

How did I miss this post?
I'm sure the surgery was harder on all of you than on her. Which could not have been picnic either.
Hope all is well now and she will have a remarkably healthy fall and winter!
