Very Odd Keepsakes

This week's Fun Monday is hosted by Ami W who presents this assignment: "Find something in your closet you are keeping for some ungodly reason ... take a picture of it and tell us why you are keeping it ..."

I thought of the T-shirt on the right, probably because I had recently noticed it in my closet. In the days when Cuppa was passionate about painting watercolors, she had the idea of printing up T-shirts. I suspect that we, the family, were each to wear one should she have an Open House at some point. She never did as injuries forced an early retirement from this pursuit.

It was never worn, not only because of her early retirement but because it simply didn't turn out very well as the home done printing job was always very dull and faded, even more so than it looks to be in this photo. Ten years or so later, this never-worn shirt remains in my closet. For some strange reason, it even came across province with us eighteen months ago, and after dragging it out for this photo, I will put it back so that I can scratch my head over it in another three years or whatever.

I was surprised, however, to find this other forgotten T-shirt with it celebrating Wayne Gretzy's retirement. Made at the behest of the newspaper in his hometown where his parents still live or did at the time, a friend from the same town gave it to me. I seem to recall wearing it as a pyjama top from time to time but not lately. I'll also put it back where I found it, and I still don't quite know why.

I presume you'll find the list of Fun Monday participants at A Family Story. I think I'm the token male in the crowd although I was originally introduced to the group by Eric at The Electronic Firefly.

Oooh, I get to be the first to pontificate. The picture on watercolor shirt looks great; maybe you have kept the shirts for memories. Cotton t-shirts make fine rags, but maybe mopping the floor with a loved one's artwork or cleaning around the toilet with The Great One's picture is wrong...just plain wrong.

I have two shirts from a Phoenix Sun's game i never went to. I don't like basketball, and the shirts are too small for me.

Why do i keep them?

I too like the artwork and I guess as it was made for you it wi=ould be hard to throw out. It's not often you come across a male hoarder my hubby would chuck everything and more!

I think I would be proud if I could produce art work like that. Don't know the guy on the other shirt but whoever it is I can see why you keep it in the closet for occasions such as these.

Seems t-shirts were the thing to post about today.

I would not throw out the artwork. Definitely a keepsake!

I have shirts from each of the years that the Houston Rockets won the basketball championship. I still wear them a jammie tops. I'll probably keep them 'til I die as the Rockets may never win another championship.

*SIGH*

I save the weirdest stuff! Rocks, bits of soil, jewelry. I seem to have an unspoken rule about saving things. It has to be small enough that I can save all of it in a small wooden box.

:)

Peace,

I like the shirts too - I guess I'm lacking in the taste gene - I would SO wear most of the clothes I've seen so far!

I think the watercolor is pretty, actually. Too bad she had to quit.

...and we wonder why we ask why...

I don't think either of those is too weird. I can see why you are hanging on to them.

My husband currently has 55 T-shirts neatly folded on his shelf in the closet, stacked by color. (This is down from about 87 to 90.) I have considered cutting all the fronts off and piecing together a quilt, as it is my most abundant fabric supply. Most of them are silly, or test-fabrics, which are printed all askew. He loves them, so we keep them.

It's the thought that counts. One thing possions do is jog our memory and remind us we had a wonderful time.

I would imagine it was kept for the memories...and the art, it looks good on your post.

It's always hard for me to get rid of old tees because of what they represent(ed)....usually a good visit or a fun event.

Definite tee shirt theme going on this week, although I went another route. Glad Erik introduced you to FM, it is nice meeting a few new bloggers each week.
