JJ’s accident keeps on with its repercussions. Not only did Dani lose her vehicle, but JJ will be out of pocket for getting the car towed and then likely have increased insurance premiums. Now, there are repercussions for us too.
As you know, we loaned our ancient, 2010 car, Hermione the Honda, to Danica to help her get to her final exams. It was a nice thing to do, but they say that no good deed goes unpunished, and they appear to be correct.
Danica hit a road hazard on the expressway, or the road hazard hit her. I am not sure which, but she was fearful that she had blown a tire. Thankfully, she hadn’t. That would have been frighteningly awful on that busy, urban highway.
Unfortunately, on the weekend, we saw that there was some damage near the passenger door: a bit of a dent and loose molding.
I took Hermione into the auto body shop just around the corner. She’s a 2010 model with many scratches and scrapes, so we just want to keep her functional. There is no way that the car needs to be restored to pristine condition.
The estimate is $200 to refasten the molding. We’re getting off easily compared to what could have happened. Nevertheless, it appears to be very true about good deeds and their subsequent punishment.
Yikes...so sorry that all these chain reactions seem to be happening. Accidents happen, and then we have to live with all the repercussions.
ReplyDeleteI'm really sorry to read this. Poor all of you. On a lighter note, I say this to Gatto on a daily basis. I let him in and he causes lots of trouble.

Bad things come in threes so hopefully the third thing is fairly minor.

ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about keeping a car functional and running despite it's age. My Jeep Liberty is a 2007 model and still running despite only a few bruises, nothing enough to need repair and it gets serviced regularly. Your frustration at the repair bill is understandable and sure that Danica feels badly too. But then considering the circumstances you surely would not have hesitated to lend her Hermione the Honda in the first place. JJ's incident was also unfortunate but thankful only damage to a car and not a person.

ReplyDeleteOuch! That's a pretty fair repair estimate if your car was in Kansas. You're very lucky that whatever hit the car didn't hit the windshield then Danica. My older brother had one of the first Mustangs. His wife was driving it when a loud noise occured. Seems the fan blade cut through the hood and flew right over the top of the windshield. I have 2 nieces many years later because of the non-injury angle of that fan blade. Whew! Linda in Kansas

ReplyDeleteBummer. So sorry for both your grandkids. Life can turn around and start to suck at any time, but it is not easy on the youngsters.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter skidded our car on ice one night and hit a parked car. She was, maybe, seventeen. She went and found the owner of the car, who called police to record the incident. The policewoman who came stepped out of her vehicle and fell plump on her behind on the same black ice that had skidded the YD. She persuaded the homeowner not to record the incident and daughter paid the cost of the repair herself. I have always loved this story, mostly for the cop who was more than just a cop that evening.
I hope something good happens to both of your fine but unlucky grandkids very soon.
I'm glad that Hermione and you got off rather lightly. I'm sure Danica feels bad about all of it. And JJ too.
