Post-Easter Squall

Easter did not change the weather. On Monday morning, we awoke to a skiff of snow along with cold and wind. Yesterday was even worse with more than a skiff but not a huge dumping, thank goodness. I took a shot from the front window just to share my misery with y'all. Thanks for your concern.

Then I took another, but we've put the screens back on the windows after opening them for three minutes when the weather was nice-ish one day. As I was pressing the shutter, the phone switched its focus to the screening, and I think it's kinda neato.

Somewhat stupidly, we later attempted a decidedly miserable walk on a snow-obscured sidewalk and in a fierce wind. When we got back to the house, I took a photo of three tulip buds sticking out of the snow. Several other clusters were buried completely, but they shall make themselves visible again soon.

They were dark in the overcast light, but I brightened them in post.

On the previous day, our local walk led us to the back of a private garden that backs onto the park. There we found (you guessed it) more crocuses. There is a bit more variety of colours in this flowerbed than in the two other primary locations that we gravitate to.

On the same day, when we walked past the recently-thawed pond, I was pleased to see two geese swimming by.

Surprisingly enough, the goose photo looks very good when it fills my monitor, for I cropped it at monitor dimensions, which is 16:9. I think you have to trust me that it looks good displayed large like that because we wouldn't know it from what we see here. :)

  1. Lovely shots of the crocuses. Such encouraging spots of colour!
They ploughed the road here, and we cleared the drive.

  3. I admire your bravery for tackling a walk in the snow. All lovely images and yes, that one particular photo of the screen close-up was most definitely neato!

  4. You certainly have had some different weather! I think hope the snowflakes are done here. Misery indeed.
I love the floral shots and the tulips poking up out of the snow. Such brave flowers!

    That screen shot was cool.

The geese look great. I clicked on all your shots to see them large!

  5. Does winter ever let go in your neighbourhood? It's good to see tulips emerging, though - some things are so reliable.

  6. During the decade I spent in the frozen tundra of the north, it was always so dispiriting when Easter had come and gone and we were still getting snow storms. I guess that is why I eventually moved back south again.

  7. Tulips are like a parable about endurance with grace.

  8. I'm sorry about the snow, ugh! Tulips are very hardy and love cold weather. Us, not so much. I've never seen yellow crocuses, but the white and purple are the kind I have!

  9. The snow we got Monday night melted quickly in the sun yesterday.

  10. I hear you if you're saying that sometimes going for a walk isn't too appealing. I force myself, but yesterday 10 minutes was all I could do. That takes me only along the east border of our acreage (twice, because there and back; still only 10 minutes altogether and hardly counts, but it's something), and it isn't pleasant when the spring wind requires pulling up the hood of your parka and holding it tightly to your face. But, Johnny, it will soon be over. Then we won't be able to walk because of the wildfire smoke. Or will there be any forest left to burn, after the previous 10 summers? -Kate

  12. More snow, I'm sure you are desperate to be outside more frequently. I will say your crocus are quite a bit more beautiful than the ones here. They really shine with the cold & snow. They are more limping along here. The tulips breaking photo I really like.

  13. Oh, so sad about more snow! Will your winter ever end? Seems like Canada is really taking a beating this year. One friend, in Alberta, had several inches on Easter
The photos are all so engaging today. You have an eye for those fine details that make an ordinary shot something special

  18. And here I am complaining about season changing and it being below 20c for the week ahead.
Is April late to have snow……When was the latest it’s fallen where you live

    1. It does snow in April, but it usually goes quickly, even if it’s a big fall. The recent one wasn’t big, and we will reach to about 14C today.

  20. Yes, even though technically Autumn and there is a slight chill when I get up at ungodly hours we are still getting daytime temperatures of 29 (84). Just remember, the only times I have ever encountered snow I PAID for the privelege!

  22. Yay for the beautiful crocuses. It's the harbinger of spring.
