Missing

This was to have been the day of visiting with C2 (child 2) for the first time in almost three years.

PJ lives in Vancouver, so we don't see them often, but they booked their flight, and we were to spend the weekend together, today being the main day to visit, with yesterday being the night flight in and tomorrow being the evening flight out.

But they totally wrecked their back and, therefore, are in considerable distress. You can't navigate to an airport and then sit in it in that condition, never mind sitting in an airplane for a long time, twice within three days, especially when you have trouble sitting for more than a few minutes at home.

Thus, we wait a little longer before seeing C2 again.

PJ is 47. Oddly enough, I had my major back attack at the age of 47. I was off work for two months, and I could barely sit at the table long enough to scarf a meal. Let's hope that C2 fares better, but they are having a very rough time at present.

I leave you with two more photos that I think I have posted within the last year. As it happens, they were both taken at the family cottage in the early 80s.

  2. What a disappointment. I hope PJ's back is much improved and the visit won't have to be off the books for too long.

  8. So sorry to hear PJ's going through back pain. As you know, it's certainly an awful experience. Hope they can visit after feeling better. PS, I like their blue hair, though that was probably taken a while ago. The vintage shots are also cute!

  10. Ouch. I can't imagine not being able to sit for long.
I'm sure you've shared your words of wisdom with PJ and they will soon recover and schedule another visit.

  11. Your kid has my sympathy. My dear daughter is plagued by back issues after a car accident. NOT a good feeling at all.

  12. Backs are a serious and so, so complicated a problem. Sad to hear. I love the blue hair, just in passing. I hope things improve for you all very soon. I had to dump a trip with our YG due to a shoulder problem last year, and that is not even taking in the back. It is depressing when things get cancelled. But, hey, the robins have arrived here and we have actual bare lawn in the back as the snow sullenly soaks away. All up from here? Do keep us in the loop.

  14. Poor PJ! Back pain (as you know) is very debilitating. I hope they're soon better and improved enough for a visit. It must be a disappointment not to be able to get together.

  16. Globalization has separated us widely so it's tough to see our kids.

  17. Oh no... I'm so sorry. And yes I really know how terrible back pain is. I know how difficult it is when your kids live so far away too. Sigh....

  19. Isn't it awful when your kids are sick? I hope you can visit soon. My youngest (from whom I am estranged) has a government pink slip. I still fret over him.

  20. Three years is a long time not to see one of your children in person. On the plus side, don't you find that three years goes by in a hell of a hurry these days? And thank goodness for videocalling. -Kate

  22. Boy, troubles are piling up on your family right now. I do hope the back issue won't take too long to straighten out. I know you miss this faraway child. It's hard when they are far away. Sending good juju PJ'S way.
