My post yesterday was about the beginning of the Christmas season, but yesterday turned out to be the beginning of winter, or at least the beginning of the snowy season. It was quite a walloping for November the 9th. I don't recall seeing so much snow so early in our previous 20 years.
Our morning walk took us to the park where I wanted to juxtapose the snow with the tamarack trees, but the flakes were light at that time, and there hadn't yet been much accumulation. This was the best I could do.
That early in the day, there was just enough snow to cover the footbridge along the trail.
But it kept falling all day. After dinner, our good neighbours came over to clear the front and garage doors. A bit later, Sue scraped away the new-fallen stuff (next photo). Our plow guy came by overnight to do the driveway to begin to earn the small fortune that we paid him up front.

ReplyDeleteAieeeeeeeeee! That is a lot of snow! That pile in front of the Christmas display was startling. Our ground is covered and it is still snowing slightly. From the sounds of it, we have a couple days of this coming.
ReplyDeleteWe have nothing pressing. I just started the beans for a nice warming pot of chili. It is a good day to try to keep Tim and his chest cold inside where it is warm.
Happy winter. We are called to be in the 50s by this weekend, so hopefully you will get a bit of melt off too.
It's very cold suddenly here today...but snow may not start till tonight, if at all. You all sure got a heavy duty dose to start the season. I do hope it melts away before the next one!
ReplyDeleteWe've been cold enough for snow but there hasn't been any precipitation. Tomorrow we get back to a warm spell. That is a lot of snow.

ReplyDeleteBeing further south and blessedly so, I thought we had missed it completely but this morning when I woke, there was a couple "puddles" of snow on our deck in the eddies formed by our furniture. I'm sure those puddles will be gone in a few hours and I hope don't return for some time to come yet.

ReplyDeleteSnow looks beautiful when it first falls. That's a nice sight across from your house. Very cheerful! We had our first real chill today at 47 degrees F. Probably not as cold as what you get but our cold front has only just started after having a reasonably mild November so far.

ReplyDeleteThe last time we had snow this early was the year we built this house; I recall it perfectly because we lost a lot of small wood piles in the bush, buried in the snow and it lasted. That would have been 1996, I think, so your 20 years about hits it. Our roads were a nightmare - the road crews were unprepared and did not have chains on the ploughs. A lot of people ended up in the ditches, sadly.
