The Rusty Trucks Of Combermere

Shortly after you leave Combermere travelling east on the Rockingham Road, one comes across a photographic delight — a row of old rusting trucks on the edge of a lumber yard. (The map is live, so click, zoom and enlarge to your heart's content if you wish to get a better idea of the location.)

It was the second time that I had passed these rust buckets, or at least the second time that I had stopped to take photos. On the first occasion, I took mostly distance shots of the row or of parts of the row. This time I concentrated on getting a little closer.

I took quite a few and processed them in different ways. First the farther shots.

Let's move in a little closer.

I converted some to b&w.

What fun!

  1. Love this post. If those old vehicles could talk!

Rust is such a rich colour earned with age.

The black and white photos are very effective as they highlight the age.

I think it is marvelous to stop and take a closer look at something that one could so easily ignore. Well done.

  2. Part of me wants to cry over the possibilities for re-use or recycling; the other part applauds you for making something so mundane so worth looking at.

  5. These photos are terrific, what a treasure to find along the side of the road. There's an old rusty truck with a tree growing out of it on a country road somewhere near my son's house. I saw it once but haven't been able to locate it since. I'll have to go looking for it.

  6. They must have looked fantastic in their day. I could just imagine driving one!

I preferred the colour shots this time.

  10. Great photos. That reminds me that I have some of a rusty truck which I took last spring or summer. It was tucked away on a property a few doors down from mine. I can't say I ever noticed these beauties when I'd been to Combermere. Nicely done.

  11. What great photo subjects and you did appear to have a great day to explore. I was wondering hiw many trucks were there and why and for how long they had been there, if you know.

  12. You aren't kidding. Those vehicles are more than rusty. I'll bet there are fascinating stories that go with each.
