We replaced our rusty thirty-year-old light fixture over the garage. Then Sue decided that it required a special bulb. Our house will be noticed.

There is a similar light inside the porch, but it doesn't show up as radiantly. |
Our Wednesday walk took us to the coffee shop and around to the junction to consume it. Just in case you don't believe me, I have a selfie.

Uni will be different and difficult for her. Since she already has a car, and residence is very costly, she will commute daily. Unfortunately, that will involve up to two hours of travel time — usually in rush hour, at least in the morning. I think it will take her awhile to sort out the best plan of action with regards to schedule and meals. She hung around campus well into the evening yesterday and didn't get home until after 10, but she has no classes on Thursdays, so she won't have to get up early to drive in today.
Her orientation was sane and serious, not silly like mine was all those years ago. Along with others, I had to tour the city in this ↓ outfit. I was just turning 20, and that was my first beard. I have usually had a beard since then, but I have had a few years or part years clean shaven.

Off to University, 1967 Outfit made by Sue following provided instructions sheet. |
She's in for a rugged time in winter. Let's hope she has days of no classes. My own uni experience was you showed up and got your paperwork with your class schedule then went to class, sink or swim!
ReplyDeleteQuite a long commute. I hope it all goes well for your sweet young woman!
ReplyDeleteI I lived closer, I might bust out a few disco moves in your driveway at night!
ReplyDeleteGreat light on your garage/home! Wonder what your neighbors think of it. So glad you're part of Danica's transition to college student...but she'll soon have campus friends that may take more of her time. It's harder when you commute though...to have college buddies. You certainly looked like a caped crusader when a freshman!
ReplyDeleteI love the light - so welcoming.
ReplyDeleteNew routines soon become old ones. It's all headachey stuff at first.
Two hours one way? That's horrible! Even one would be. Yikes. Good luck to her, taking it in stride.
ReplyDeleteAnd werent (arent) you just a cutie! Very young there -- how old were you when you and Sue met?
One hour one way.
DeleteI dated Sue when I was 19, not too long before the picture. She liked the beard which is largely why I kept it back then.
I love ❤️ all your photos. The lights ✨️ are pretty.
ReplyDeleteExciting times for her. It took me about an hour by bus & subway to get to uni back in the day.
ReplyDeleteYes, good luck to Dani as she works out her commuting schedule.
ReplyDeleteOh, I feel for that commute - I hope she does get it worked out soon.
ReplyDeleteThat lightning amazing! I must get one. Where did she find it?
ReplyDeleteCheers for Dani! I too had a long commute to college but I was in my thirties, and traffic even in our Capitol city isn't much. I sure wish her well.
And your outfit. Oh my goodness! Somehow I missed that you and Sue were together even before college. Amazing.
It may have come from Home Depot. They're around.
DeleteI love that light! Like a prior commenter, I would worry about the winter commute. Do they have any on-line back up arrangements? Someone she could stay with there if the roads are too bad? As my parents would often say, "Don't borrow trouble." It's barely even September and I'm already thinking about snow.
ReplyDeleteShe has some friends in residence. She could probably use their floor in stormy weather.
DeleteYour light says dance party and it's a balm. Ah yes, the commute years...sigh. That last photo is a doozy.
ReplyDeleteI love that. The pictures are really great.
ReplyDelete2 hours! Yikes! Hopefully she can find people to carpool with. That picture of you is priceless. I did not realize that you and Sue were dating even back then. Someday you will have to tell us that story! With pictures!
ReplyDeleteWe hadn't been dating for very long -- a few months.
Deleteall best wishes to Danika for a great experience at uni.
ReplyDeleteThey were tough on you back then! That's quite the schedule she will have. Is Carlton near you? Maybe if it's too late, she can keep a change of clothes (and a bed) at your spot for now-and-then times? But exciting, too.
ReplyDeleteWe both live in the same town.
DeleteMy goodness. You looked so innocent at that age
ReplyDeleteI really was.
DeleteWhy humiliate kids by making them walk around in a dumb costume. Dani's orientation sounds worth while.
ReplyDeleteWell...it's not possible that Dani is grown...college...ohmyword. She's a beauty. Are there no online classes she could do first? I know your winters can be really harsh.
ReplyDeleteLove the outfit! lol
hugs
Donna
She’s a gem. I think this year will be difficult, but she may be able to crash on a friend’s floor if there is inclement weather. She should at least get through the first semester without too much difficulty — weather-wise, I mean.
DeleteLove Sue's light show! She's taken the place of you as the adventurous one! I also love the picture of you peering over your sunglasses. And did you go to UofG?!
ReplyDeleteI love Sue's light show and a great selfie of the two of you. I wish Dani all the best at uni. That's a long commute. My husband did that for several years going back and forth into the city, and then his offices changed and he only had to commute 10 minutes for another several years. Great picture of you in your UofG photo.
ReplyDeleteI quite like the light!
ReplyDeleteJordan was into classes first thing Sept. 2nd at Queens. He is having a great time. I offered to pick him up for Thanksgiving, but he wants to take a Flix bus. He wants to be independent! (But I'm not ready for that!)
A colourful front.
