I haven't subscribed to this feed that I am about to reference, but someone with the handle, Actual Names (click here) keeps showing up in Bluesky. He finds weird names of actual people who have lived, such as Petri Fuckherbergers, for example. Many, like Petri Fuckherbergers, have a sexual innuendo in modern English. Quite a few, however, are just weird in our times: Viola Toolate, for example.
These are real names, or at least he provides the 'receipts' (as they say now), such as the example below. If you want to check for yourself, this is the link for his posts: https://bsky.app/profile/actualnames.bsky.social .
I'll list a few sans citations, but there are more if you follow the link that I have now provided three times. Meanwhile, have a Funny Friday.

Speaking of Bluesky, since I am here blathering anyway, let me post a little something. This is not a funny something, but just a something something in passing.
I was scrolling down the app one recent evening, and began to notice what there was extra vitriol in the air. People were saying edgy, mean or even somewhat racial things. Then, I realized that I was really in X/Twitter. I had opened a popup link that had appeared on my phone, not realizing that I was in the lair of the evil one.
As a side note: there is not much point in giving you my Bluesky link because I seldom post there. I mainly just follow bits of news and read a few opinions. But I do feel as though it is a kinder and gentler place than the dreaded X. However, I do get into X on occasion because not everyone whom I would like to follow has crossed over to where the skies are blue
It makes me wonder if an ancestor chose those names at one time or another...or was given them as a kind of punishment!
ReplyDeleteWow, I echo Barbara's comment.
ReplyDeleteSome good names there! I'm on twitter and I don't seem to see many mean posts. If I do it's usually because someone is mocking/correcting the idiot.
ReplyDeleteI stay far away from X although I do occasionally check some news there. It used to such a good site. Those names are quite something! My late husband used to claim that he knew of a guy in a nearby town named Harry Butts. I thought it was a joke, but it was true.
ReplyDeleteYou gave me quite a laugh! I never used Twitter. I do have a Bluesky account but have not used it.
ReplyDeletehahahahaha, although I feel sorry for anyone who had to grow up with these.
ReplyDeleteI feel sorry for kids having to grow up with embarrassing names. Assole? Really?
ReplyDeleteI stay away from Twitter simply because it is tied in with Elon Musk.
ReplyDeleteMe too
DeleteThe parents should have thought those names through a bit more. I'm on Bluesky and Twitter. More people on Twitter than Bluesky which is why I;m there more.
ReplyDeleteThat list of names is comedy gold, and your Bluesky vs. X comparison perfectly nails the vibe shift between the two
ReplyDeleteWe had a book in the school library with names such as you have listed. It was popular. Several kids would go through it together. There was always great laughter.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this report from the frontier! Fun reading the names!
ReplyDeleteToo funny! When I was in 7th grade, we had a music teacher named Miss Leak. She had an intern named Miss Longbottom. Hilarity ensued.
ReplyDeleteHah! I ONCE had a thought to try out Twitter (now called “X”), but (at least back in the day…. not sure if it is still that way) you were limited to 143 CHARACTERS in a post. Honestly (yet, and this is with a true BIT of regret) I do not think I would have been successful in making ANY statement in ONLY 143 characters. :) But, now that site is too Musky for my tastes, so I remain outside its realm even if I were to want to try to meet that 143 limitation.
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of BlueSky. I presume from your context that it is similar, albeit non-Musky? Obviously for my tastes, “Truth”Social is also out….. so perhaps I may give BlueSky a try. But….. sincerely, is IT TOO limited to 143?!
PipeTobacco
I think X doubled the limit. Sky has a limit, but I am not sure what it is. But if you need more, you can make a thread, essentially one or more replies to yourself.
DeleteImagine growing up with those names. Reminds me of the local guy named Richard Bonar. Everyone called him Dickie. Then he had a son, Richard Bonar Jr, so they became Big Dickie Bonar and Little Dickie Bonar. True story.
ReplyDeleteI checked out bluesy, but decided i didnt need another social media platform in my life. Blogs and Facebook are plenty for me. On Facebook, I have unfollowed, blocked, or deleted a lot of people who post things I dont like, and have done the same with lots of ads, so my feed is pretty pleasant----gardens, glass, cooking, and family and friends pretty much dominate, with a few travel posts for places Id like to see, and those "view from my window" posts. I like those as i see places all over the world, usually just the views from ordinary homes.
ReplyDeleteI basically switched X for Bluesky to get out of Musk’s world. It keeps me in the news loop a little better than FB without me having to get too involved.
DeleteThat's what I have done. I miss the naturalists, who are too busy now to post. sigh.
