Indoor Photography

While I have put my camera in the car a few times recently, I haven't got around to pressing the shutter. I have continued to take some indoor photos, however. These are of the macro/closeup persuasion. Some also involved focus stacking.

In a previous post, I had experimented with composites. This is another.

My older 7D camera, which I still use sometimes. a photobook, and a journal. Despite focusing on several different spots in this and the next photo, I find that some areas are not as sharp as they could be. I am learning that when you are working up close, it seems to take more shots than I had thought to get everything really sharp.

Some lenses: a prime. a wide angle, and a longer zoom (70-200mm).
The kittens: we purchased these as a little memento back in 1971. They continue to serve as a pleasant reminder.

My trilobite. I call him Trey. He or she lived about 400 million years ago and was unearthed in present day Morocco.

  2. Very interesting. I hope to get around to learning a bit more of what I can do with my camera.....maybe next year!! haha. Grand-baby # 1 to arrive within a couple of weeks, so I think my "focus' will be only on that---pardon the pun!

  3. I wish I could be interested in photography as so many bloggers are. I am still so focused on the writing that the photos are secondary. However I enjoy and admire the great work that others are doing. Maybe some day...

We have a trilobite as well. There is a place in Newfoundland, just outside St. John's, along the banks of the Manuels River where there are tons of trilobites. There was a time when you could go there and get as many as you wanted. I don't know if it is a protected area now. Also, some of the oldest fossils in the world are Imprinted in the rocks along the shoreline of Newfoundland. A photographer's delight!

  5. Nicely done . I focus more on nature shots then inside shots . I love sitting and waiting for nature and watching learning and studying it at the same time so for me it is a bit more then just photography . There is so many different types of photography out there and all are very interesting ! Thanks for sharing , Have a good day !

  7. I love to take outdoor shots but I do think January and February are conducive to indoor ones! I really like that trilobite!

So do you use a &D MarkII now?

  8. I like how you work into the technology of photography. I must spend more time doing this instead of just relying on those settings that seem to work 80% of the time.

  9. Love the trilobite! And what a good use of your winter time, exploring photography!

  10. My favorite in this post was the first set-up composite of the two snowmen figures. It was very appropriate after the winter storm this weekend. I also haven't done very much experimentation with closeup shots, except for the ones I have taken of items posted on eBay. It always amazes me the awful shots that people post of something they are trying to sell but don't care enough to take the best possible photo.

  11. You are so creative with your photos.
Question: have you always used a Canon?
My first camera was a Nikon, and I have wanted to try a Canon....but, once one has several lenses and camera accessories, it becomes financially prohibitive (to me) to change cameras. Thoughts on camera brand(s)?

  12. Jackie: I see no reason to switch camera brands. Both Nikon and Canon make excellent cameras ... as do a few other manufacturers -- Sony and Fuji come to mind. If I were starting from scratch today, it is quite possible that I would choose a brand other than Canon, but it actually matters little for almost every photographer IMO.

  14. Trey looks like a nice 'person' to have around. Not too noisy, not too weird. Just right. And those kittens look adorable. They are as old as me!
