Sick, Little Munchkin

We've had a poor, sick little munchkin on our hands for a few days. The dreaded H1N1? Who knows? It doesn't help when it's the doctor's day off and the ER says not to bring flu victims in unless you've checked with the doctor. The Health Ontario hot line was very helpful, but still ...

Anyway, the crisis point seemed to pass this afternoon. She was whining constantly, so I rocked her in her room for awhile. If she slept then, it wasn't for long, but she was definitely brighter and cheerier when she was done with the rocking.

We were pretty worried for awhile because this is not exactly a munchkin who's famous for her lethargy. She was a woebegone creature for awhile.

Bless her little heart!! Not much you can do except watch the temp..."feed a fever, starve a cold"...Tylenol, liquids...She'll let you know if she's hungry...Clear liquids like Sprite or 7up...Nothing you can't "see" through...Hungry yet? Chicken noodle soup and maybe some crackers....Need me to catch a bus??hughughughugs

Oh I hope Smudge is feeling better, there is nothing more heartbreaking than a sick child. One feels so helpless. I agree with Donna, keep her hydrated which I am sure cuppa knows all about. God Bless all of you and I am sending good wishes and a prayer for smudge....:-) Bernie

Aww that last photo says it all.
Of course you are concerned. Sick kids are not a happy thing for the adults who love them.
But you do get to hold them without them wiggling around.

I keep a box of rehydration popsicles, just in case - it's half an hour to emerg from our place.
In my experience, however, and I hope in yours, the littlest ones bounce back so fast. I remember when our family was stricken with what our eldest (3) called Kong Kong Fu. The baby, about 18 months, was limp and lethargic, à la poor little Smudge. She woke and cried just as the rest of us (recovered) started supper. I put her on my lap and afte a bit a dimpled paw reached out and grabbed a bit of turkey. And hour later she was back to normal again.
May your little one return to her normal, highly delightful and active self soonest.
And don't you get it.
Lovely photo - so sweet.

Oh it breaks my heart to see her icky. I bet she is better tomorrow. Of course everything that comes along now we think it is that flu. I read today to try to keep the nostrils cleaned out. For a child take a q-tip and dip it in saline (salt in water) and swab them out, and of course hands washed. Yours and theirs. But you know that.

It's awful to see her so poorly but I'm sure she will soon bounce back. I have embee battling flu at the moment and am keeping fingers crossed my mother doesn't go down with it-or me of course!

There are few things more frightening than a sick child. Hope she's better soon.

My heart just broke to see her so lethargic. Please let us know real soon how she is...and I'll pray that it will be good news.

I trust she is better now. Hopefully it was a mild case of H1N1 and she is now immune. Keep well!

Is this horrible of me? We worry when they're sick but to hold those wild ones like that, to have them in need of us in that way, it is a gift...but only when they finish that off by getting well and tearing up the day after.
Hope she's wild again soon.

AC,

Aww, that is no fun for her. I hope she's feeling better soon. I'll keep her in my prayers.

Great photo of Grandpa giving her some lovin' in the rocking chair.

Oh A/C.. I so understand your concern. My grandbaby was sick this week for the first time .. and it is scary to see them this way. We too had to wonder about H1N1.. but no way to really know. She too is now feeling and doing better. Thank goodness. Funny.. but the nurse part of me seems to vanish when my own are ill. The mom and grandma part takes center stage.
