Perky and Chirpy

When the doctor advised me to take allergy meds for about a week, in compliance mode, I stopped at the pharmacy on the way home. Almost every alternative that I could spy with my little eye was of the Non Drowsy variety. Eventually, but with reluctance, I picked one. Although a few previous encounters with Non Drowsy meds haven't gone all that well, given the lack of choice, I decided to give them one more try because, after all, Non Drowsy should not necessarily mean Perky and Chirpy.

I took one around seven o'clock and figured that, even if it were to affect me, I'd probably begin to get over it by bedtime. Then, I promptly forgot about it. Much later, after several hours of tossing and turning and not quite falling asleep, I finally remembered about the pill. As it's happened before, it was happening again. Somehow, those things just wire me. Up I got in the middle of the night and puttered on the puter for an hour or so. Eventually, I tired myself out enough to sleep regardless of the medication.

I'll head down and take my daytime pill now, but not tonight. Oh no, not tonight. Lesson re-learned.

Sigh.

AC,

I know that those type of meds work reverse in some people and the effect is heightened in others. If I were you, next time I'd buy the kind that make your drowsy. You may get some much needed sleep.

Hope you have a great week.
Blessings,
Mary

Lots of sympathy - they affect my husband the same way. have you tried Tylenol Sinus Nighttime? Works for me, anyway.

I have discovered that any medication ingredient that ends in
drine , wires me. Non-drowsy or not!

AC, perhaps if you took it first thing in the morning, it would help your allergy as well not interfer with your sleep. Nothing worse than being alert and awake through the night....I hope tonight goes better for you.

Even the non-drowsy ones knock me out. But I'm not itchy!

Have you ever tried just plain Benedryl? Knocks me and everyone I've ever talked to, Out!

I know what you mean. Non-drowsy means just that for me. I get Benelyn Original which even though it's cough mixture, is a good bedtime medication with a touch of sleeping sand in it.

I suspect you are experiencing the effects of a decongestant. If it says something like pseudoephedrine--or some other ingredient--that is decongesting. Those drugs are chemical cousins of amphetamines, and they do tend to perk people up. Not everyone, to be sure, but many people.
Take in the a.m. to avoid the late night WIDE AWAKE syndrome.
It is antihistamines that usually make people drowsy.

Well, it was labeled "non-drowsy".

I remembered buying this painkiller at http://www.ordermedsonline.ca/soma.html for my headache and as soon as my bed touched the pillow my eyes closed and I was off to dreamland. I usually take meds for my headache but the non-generic type. And like this med, I fall asleep easily. I don't know if it has to do with the med or my weariness due to my headache.

I have sleep apnea so I cannot take anything that makes me sleep as it slows down the breathing. If I take such meds, I will just stop breathing. I stop often enough without the help of meds. But I am an insomoniac. I have been for years.

Ah, the side effects of medication, boy do I know a thing of two about that!

Hope you find something that helps you sleep.

Theraflu does that to me. Makes me a nervous, jittery mess. Don't go near the stuff!

Hope you're better by now.
