Granny does AI Photo Editing

Sue's photo prompt week involves gray with various ancillary prompts added. Yesterday, we saw a gray squirrel in a yard that backs onto the trail. It seems that most gray squirrels have transmogrified into black variants, but this one was the proper gray.

Sue decided that it required a splash of colour and asked about adding flowers using AI. I don't do much AI, but Shauna was over and told Sue to invoke ChatGPT. Cute result eh?

In keeping with the gray theme, she was then able to turn the basket's colour from brown to gray.

After she shared her result, with us, I realized that I could invoke more AI editing right from FB just by tapping her photo. I asked AI to add a hat. One could specify a different sort of hat or make it gray, but all that I wanted to do at that point was to see how AI would work within the FB app, and I discovered that it worked very well.

I have been very ambivalent about AI. I like to know what it real and what isn't, and I don't approve of the environmental cost, but we are in a different world now. Personally, I have done very little with AI, but I have a Flickr contact who creates marvellous images. He describes a scene and then edits it in Photoshop. It wouldn't feel right to post his images directly, but here is a link to one image. Once there, if you hit the back arrow you will see a few more examples. He does mix his own real photos into his stream as well.

Of course, our own DVArtist on Blogger also constructs incredible images.

  1. The little squirrel looks much sweeter than he probably is (though I do enjoy watching squirrels)

  2. Pretty sure that's a momma squirrel, just looking at her tits. The flowers are cute, as well as the hat...but I am completely chagrined by AI. There are too many talented artists, writers etc, to use these gimmicks. Just my opinion.

    1. I was going to say the same. She needs a bonnet instead of a tophat.

I read a funny note about squirrels. " No matter where you see a squirrel,

    2. ...no matter what they are doing, they always acts as if it is their first day of being a squirrel.

  3. I like the smart little hat addition. I don't use AI really, except a random question for CHATgpt. But I'm not all up in arms either, I think there will be positive outcomes - medical especially.

  4. The final result is cute and makes the little devil look so innocent. Just this morning I saw tulips that had been harvested by one of them.

  6. I was/am ambivalent too about AI but have to admit I have been enjoying these artsy effects they can produce. There is also the medical science issues, and that is going to help medical research by leaps and bounds. We have a family member who is very ill and we have been trying to get some information on how they are doing. My husband does all this actually, he is finding it all amazing. And this part I am getting from him. Love your little squirrel! Well done to you and Sue for making this a really dapper squirrel.

  7. I'm very anti-AI whereas John is in love with ChatGPT. It has caused some tension in our relationship. I don't mind the obviously fake photos but it's the deceptively real ones that scare me.

  10. Your Ontario squirrels are so much more civilized than our Albertan squirrels who want to separate and join the US or who know what nonsense they're up to now. Actually, just kidding, because you'd be surprised what the polls here are saying about just how much of a minority they are now, and how more and more Albertans appreciate our Liberal PM. Hmm...who could have predicted that?

  11. I find myself using AI for more things with each passing month but I still try to restrain myself from doing photos unless I just need a picture for a blog post where I have no related picture myself. The environmental impacts concern me too but I don't think many people understand the impact.

  12. I have avoided AI for the most part. I don't need to learn it for work. I am concerned about the impact of it.
We have had 7 black morph squirrels, and only one grey. It is interesting to investigate.

  13. I have not used AI, and have no plans to, any time soon. I like the first squirrel photo. First thought was, that's a momma squirrel!

  14. The squirrel with the flowers actually came out surprisingly charming. What makes it fun is that the original photo still feels real underneath the edits, almost like adding a little storybook touch instead of completely replacing reality.

  15. My dogs surely think squirrels are just like that. But carry weapons and can cause terrible destruction if not chased.
