At Dark & Deadly on Sunday morning, we enjoyed a very nice caramel coffee (I forget its actual name) and a really scrump breakfast sandwich. It was so good that it will be tough to enjoy the Timmies or McDonalds versions, not that we often do that. In point of fact, it has possibly been years since we last frequented McD's, and if we do get Tims, it is usually a turkey-bacon-club sandwich at lunchtime (again, infrequently).
However, what I am primarily posting about is what we saw at D&D and not about the food and drink that we consumed. Take a look.
These is one of his items that he displays at the café: a mug, or rather a clay face somehow attached to a pre-made mug and selling for $60. It suits the Dark & Deadly theme very well.
These were all smaller creations.
The artisan is on Etsy as DWCUglyStuff where he has sold almost 2000 items. He said that he sells all over the world and more to Americans than Canadians. Here ↓ is a sample from his Etsy page.
It was interesting to see him puttering away and to learn just a little about his work. And it was very cool to see his phone and light setup. It would be appealing to have a stand like that, even though I have no earthly use for one.
BTW, if you are close to local (I know there are a few of you), you should drop into Dark & Deadly someday if you are in the area. It's a unique café with good coffee. I too really like the stand! Not as sure about the mugs…. although I can say they are artistic….. jut not really my taste.

ReplyDeleteAs always, art is a reflection of the maker. And I'm sorry to say none of these appeal to me. A very nice set up of the phone and light. I get a kick out of the images that various artists make of faces, which somehow just don't look like real people. Give me a painting by the masters any time...and incidentally I never was happy with the faces I made in clay either!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like my kind of place -- I love watching artists work and I don't care what the medium is or even if it's my style. It just fascinates me. I like his lighting/phone set-up, too. I was thinking of you two when we went to Timmy's in Canada this past weekend. (It was the slowest Tim's I've ever been in, but that wasn't why I thought of you!) Rick had the coffee and for whatever reason, it reminded me of you and Sue!

ReplyDeleteHah! I mistakenly thought the guy was making coffee mugs…. he is making art on terra cotta planting pots!!!!! Now, I do appreciate his art much more….. though for me I like the Poe one……. but would not want to drink coffee from his head! But to put flowers into…… maybe!!!

DeleteOk, I'm impressed - BUT I'd be scared to have those faces looking at me. The set-up is great, with the light & phone. The joy of a good breakfast, that can last for hours!
