Easter Synchronicity and Serendipity

On Easter weekend, I picked up our pies from Ashton United Church. While I have posted photos of this church in the past, they were all made with a real camera :) but this was an iPhone shot because that is what I do now. It was a pano sweep, and with a little adjusting, it turned out quite well.  It's a unique building with the pews arranged in an arc around the podium in the corner. (There are objects (speakers etc) that I could remove, but we'll let them be for now.)

Now for the Synchronicity and Serendipity of the title, and I do think that both apply.

It's Easter Weekend, and with the front yard glacier* in recession, I noticed tulip shoots appearing where there had been snow just hours earlier. That was on Good Friday, but I took these on Saturday after returning from the pie run. I wanted to capture the shoots with the glacier :) still looming in the background. In point of fact, if you look carefully in the background of the first two photos, you should spot tulip shoots poking out of the snow glacier*.

I think both words — synchronicity and serendipity — apply. The tulips were synchronous with Easter, but they were also serendipitous because I wasn't expecting to see them and just happened to check out the garden. Do you not agree?

*Speaking of the glacier, it is greatly diminished and very grubby with accumulated dirt, so I am not overly eager to post a photo. Snow-cover is generally all but gone in our area, remaining only where it was piled deeply by the snowblowers and/or where it lies in very shady spots. I will be happy to report again when the darn glacier has been consigned to history..

  1. The emerging shoots look like aliens on a cold, unforgiving planet. How lovely they will be when they open.
The interior of the church looks very welcoming, like arms being wrapped around the congregation.

  2. What amazing things the first shoots are! How they knew to pop up and greet you for Easter is certainly serendipitous, even if they were a day early! Happy pie eating!

True. Somehow, I always conceive of Easter being a weekend as I roll Good Friday and Easter Sunday together in my wee brain. Got your request for a tower greenhouse explanation and will endeavour to comply.

  3. The church pano turned out very good and I usually have issues using that features, so nice to see your shot. I smiled when reading the first sentence because I recalled your tradition if picking up pies for Easter. Looks like those flowers are eager to make an appearance despite the remaining snow mound and agreed that when gritty they are not attractive photo subjects. Happy Easter 🐰🐣

    1. The warping will unnerve some, but I don’t really mind it on occasion. I would be able to avoid it with a proper camera, but I don’t care so much anymore.

  6. No matter how long winter is, spring always comes. Camus said, 'in the depths of winter, I learned within me lie an invincible summer.' I have a ways to go yet. In the depths of winter I never remember summer will come. Thank you for the reminding.

  7. I like this post a lot. The title. The tulips. The church design. And, the gradual disappearing of the glacier! Happy Easter!

  8. So much "rotten" snow, as Scott calls it. Starting here too, in the ditch by my road. I went to town yesterday to drive Emil over to his brother's, and the streets are full of deep slush and melted water. What a mess. Once it starts, it goes fast.
    Happy Easter, John!

  9. Happy Easter. Our local Loblaws still has a huge dirty glacier in the parking lot.

  10. I love the way you look at the sight of those tulips, John. At first, upon seeing that church pews photo, I thought you'd bent them through some sort of panoramic shot. They actually look like that? Incredible!

  12. We have several smallish but annoying snow piles left - the worst is the result of having to shovel the roof. And half the field is still under. But, the robins are back. As much as the tulip shoots, this cheers me.
