Bearded Wonder

Norm was at the checkout just behind us. Quite frankly, he had a marvellous beard. Sue was so entranced that I thought that I would have to intervene before she invited him home for dinner. I feared that she would ask what night I might be out. ;)

While I think my beard is acceptable, by no means do random strangers stop me to express their approbation. Mind you, Sue's approval of my first beard when I was a tender 19-year-old was certainly positive reinforcement for continued porting of same.

At coffee with the boys this week.

That ↑ is about as long as I can grow my beard before it goes all gnarly. I did try to grow it more during COVID, employing special shampoo and  conditioner and ointment or whatever, but it just wouldn't work.

But Norm's beard is special. He can grow it without it beginning to run rampant.

  1. It's interesting to consider facial hair, from a woman's perspective. Men have the choice of a daily shave (and for sensitive skin that's a real pain!) or trimming the whiskers. I have tweezers to capture a wild hair every week or so...since menopause this has been part of my life. I like your beard just fine AC! And that shot of you smiling is really nice!

  2. That is so fun! Joe has the same issue. Gray hair just dries out!

  3. He must have been pleased with the attention.

  4. My beard is on your level AC. I just cropped it close again because it was all gnarly and it wasn't even 20 mm long.

  5. Mark also can only let his beard get so long as it just becomes and messy bush. Your friend has an admirable beard.

  6. Laughing out loud here over the first paragraph!

  7. Ha ha, well I much prefer a shorter trim. However, your friend's beard looks immaculately cared for!

  8. Norm does have a great beard (and smile!) Yours looks very nice too and you also have a winning smile. After being widowed, I've only dated bearded men. My late husband couldn't grow a beard; it came in very patchy with too many bald spots.

  11. Norm does have an epic beard. However you have an epic, wise wife. She has got you trained...who want to start that mess over again!?

  12. In the old days I grew a great beard. Now much of my face is bald.

  16. A very humorous report on both beards but I think you look very nice with yours.

  19. My ex-boyfriend had a beard. It got sticky with the peanut butter he loved to eat. I am glad David is clean shaven.

  20. I like your beard better than his; the shorter length is more modern and tidier. About beard hair being wiry - yes, when my man grows his very stiff haired one, it scrapes my face.

  22. For many, many years I kept my beard and mustache to the same length you typically sport, AC. I thought it was typically "professorial". But then, just for the hell of it.... about six or seven years ago I decided to forgo trimming it into the "tidy, short length" you have...... and simply let it grow as it would..... and it grew out considerably bigger. I have been wearing a beard and mustache for a very, very long time.... I am getting pretty close to a 45 year Beard-a-versary.

When I quit trimming.... it was incredibly surprising.... but I NOW get A LOT of people noticing and commenting on my beard REGULARLY now.... usually at least twice a week, sometimes more often. It is strange, though I admit I actually greatly appreciate the positive attention. My wife rolls her eyes at me because it happens so often..... random strangers, students, in the grocery store, in the library, in Starbucks.... it is fun but a bit crazy.

  23. My hubby had a magnificent beard when he grew one. He shaved it most summers and kept it for winters. The impressive moustache never ever left his face. Funny how that is!
You have a great beard too. I do like tidy ones! :)

  24. Yours suits you very nicely!

  25. Norm's beard is indeed impressive (I'm a bit jealous too)...but whatever your beard, it's always what's on the inside, right?

  26. Nice beard, Norm. Husband is currently thinking about growing one again. We shall see.

  27. Both beards look great and while Patrick has considered growing one again, it tends to make him look older and many commented on that fact, so it may deter him in future.

  28. Larry's beard is piddling compared to yours! As you know, I am no fan of beards, so I am quite glad Larry's has to stay trimmed!
