November Remnants

As you know, we walk almost daily, snapping photos willy nilly — not really, but we do snap a lot. Some pictures don't make it into my almost daily posts, so here are a few of those November photos that were overlooked at the time.

On the very first of November, we were in the Blue Spoon Atelier when I became absorbed by the man who, in turn, was totally absorbed in his phone, presumably in a video, probably a movie. On first glance, it seemed as though he might be deep in meditation, but of course, there are ear buds.

A few days later, while walking in the park and photographing tamarack trees, we spied this single mallard and his reflection, with his reflection also being in the golden glow of reflected tamaracks. I tend to feel sorry for animals on their own. I guess there are loners in every species. While I am a bit of a loner, I have almost always had a friend or three, including family, of course.

Going in sequential order, next comes a sunset view from the bedroom, followed by a similar view from another time that is a little out of sequence. Thank goodness for the wire removal feature in Photoshop.

After a light snow, I captured fallen leaves in a property just a few doors up on another of our trudges. I think I moved the leaf to the bench in the first photo, but they were as they fell on the driveway in the second photo. Oops, the photos got reversed.

Another fallen leaf on another day: just a maple leaf on snow — very Canadian, eh?

The next photo was very cool to me. Snow remains almost only in the shadow of the bridge railing. I am sure that this effect is abetted by people tending to walk along the edges, just as we see the couple doing in the photo.

Finally, there are the Christmas lights. Our neighbour has his tiny front yard so full that it is difficult to get a good picture, but I tried to isolate a little patch of the display in this photo — a small train in front with other things behind.

What will we see in December?

  3. I'm not sure if this makes me a loner but I enjoy not being around people all the time. I'm okay with some of the time as long as there aren't too many. Perhaps the mallard was just enjoying alone time and had a wild mallard get together later that day.

    1. Good point. More accurately, I am an introvert with only a few friends, which is typical of introverts.

  5. These are beautiful photos! I am a loner, but I know I need to try to interact more.

  7. Nice shots. I really like the maple leaf symbolizing Canada. Also, the man listening to ear buds.

  8. I really enjoyed these “remnant” photos….. and I especially liked the added commentary you gave to them! It was more of a glimpse into your “mind’s eye” than usual…. which I greatly enjoy. Usually, when you talk about a more curated set of your photographs, you focus more on the photographic technique, rather than your mental vision. Both aspects are interesting….. but the “mind’s eye” glimpse today felt especially meaningful and insightful to me, a person who wants to be better at photography. And, for me at least, the insight into WHY it is a photograph you chose as opposed to HOW it was made helped me.

  10. As I'm sitting here under a blanket, of course I'm drawn to the photos that feel "warm" to me... the orangey sunsets.

  11. Or could it be the horizontal railing that kept that centre piece of snow in the shade? I notice that a lot around here.

  12. I love the train decoration; it's a shame that it probably gets lost among all the other items. I consider myself an outgoing introvert; I mostly like people and being around them, but it does wear me out. (many people think I'm an extrovert though) I'm a huge fan of sunsets and sunrises!

  13. Gorgeous photos. The first one of the man, has a very interesting head. Like the shape of it. He certainly is absorbed. Have a great day today.

  14. Will you be getting snow tomorrow? It's in our forecast here south of you. We had snow in Buffalo for Thanksgiving. I was glad I packed my snow boots for that trip.

  16. Snowy leaves are fun. It is also rewarding to check the water - a single floating leaf or one caught in ice crystals. And, wow, do we have ice crystals. The wet stuff that fell on Sunday seems to have sublimed around here - roads were centre bare but most of the trees still have a covering.
I am never alone if I have a book for company.

  18. I am late to the game today, whew! But I did get to enjoy your photos and comments about lone individuals (ducks at least). They do tend to mate for life, but perhaps some might take a new spouse, or perhaps they just haven't found their "right one."

  19. Thank you for all of these. They are beautiful and thoughtful. You notice so many things that others will just glance at and pass by.

  20. I have few friends, so I hear you.
    Lovely shots.
