Last week, I showed a picture of ice on the river. This week, we saw that ice was overtaking the pond. There is an unfrozen section near the intake where the ducks can swim and forage. A significantly smaller portion will remain open all winter. The ducks do have a free-flowing river nearby just beyond the trees in the background, however, so not to worry.
I called Sue over to my den just before we went down for supper last night to see the the Cold Supermoon shining brightly over the opposite houses. I thought the scene looked appealing along with the snow and lights, especially the Christmas lights. Out came the phone.
What a colorful neighborhood!
ReplyDeleteOur river nearby is starting to ice over also. It is slow moving so it can be covered in a matter of days.
At times like this, I'm glad I'm not a duck.
ReplyDeleteBut at other times, Ed?
DeleteOkay, okay, I’ve never wished to be a duck!
DeleteWe had a fairly well lit night here last night. Moonlight reflecting on the snow. Lots of ice forming too with below 0 temps.
ReplyDeleteThe Christmas lights really do make the moon stand out, don't they? What a lovely scene.
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI think I might like a drive down to Narrows Lock. There are birds on Otty Lake, I'll be there are some there, as well.
Silly ducks keeping warm on freezing water...but I guess the option is even colder ice. I haven't seen any lately, probably because I haven't stopped to look when they are eating on the water. I don't go by the lake till noontime now.
ReplyDeleteWow, the last photo is fantastic. The reflection of the Christmas lights os the snow....perfect!
ReplyDeleteOhh what beautiful photos. That last one is amazing. Have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous moon, I happened to notice it, too. I'm glad the ducks have places to go during freezes, I can't help but think how cold their feet are ;).
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning photos, dear friend!
ReplyDeleteNice colors in that last shot!
ReplyDeleteSuch brave ducks. I would fly south if I had wings.
ReplyDeleteLove the moon shot.
That's a gorgeous photo of the moon! It must be COLD there to have so much ice. We're up in the high 50s today and our ski resorts are sweating bullets over the lack of snow. :(
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shot of the supermoon in that deep blue sky!
ReplyDeleteThe frozen pond, the resilient ducks, and the Cold Supermoon glowing over snowlit homes all weave together into one quiet, wintry moment worth pausing for.
ReplyDeleteDelightful. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteCor, love a duck!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great shot of the moon and the colours on your street!
